A Bunch of Hubs about Lavender

Updated on February 14, 2012

I don't have a garden currently, but one of the things I'm looking forward to when I do is growing lavender, and then using it around the house and in crafts and gifts. I always imagined it was the kind of thing I would write about on HubPages. But there are lots of Hubs already about different aspects of lavender, and so I've decided instead to collect a "bunch" of lavender here. The criteria for each is that they simply make me look forward to having my own lavender bush collection more! These are hubs about specific aspects of lavender, rather than hubs with multiple suggestions. There are plenty more lavender passions evident in HubPages should you wish to follow your enthusiasm for this powerful purple flower further.

Growing Lavender

Dolores Monet's Hub is about what lavender does need as well as doesn't need to grow well, so a generally useful Hub if you're looking to get your lavender flourishing.

How to Dry Lavender

Hubber Plants and Oils' comprehensive instructions for picking and drying lavender are clear, helpful, and make me look forward to doing the same.

Lavender Desserts

Kathryn Vercillo's Hub is full of the most inspiring recipes for using lavender for cookies and desserts. I'm especially looking forward to trying lavender creme brulée. Mmmm.

Lavender Wands

Susie Writes takes us step by step through making lavender wands. I'd never heard of these but am definitely going to have a go. I'll use them for myself and for gifts too. Susie's photo illustrations are great, and her instructions very clear. A lovely excuse to do pretty things with flowers and ribbons.

Walking Around in a Lavender Cloud

I was intrigued by Anamika S's Hub looking at Lavender-based fragrances for men (with a couple of unisex suggestions too). As I love Lavender, the idea of my man smelling of it as well as my garden is very appealing!

My favourite scent! I will be picking up a couple of lavender plants for my balcony garden as soon as the weather starts to warm up!

It's wonderful isn't it? Funnily enough when I was young I associated it with grannies (not in a bad way), but when I became interested in herbal medicine, woke up to lavender in a big way, and the smell changed its meaning for me.

This is a great collection, Keri! I've grown lavender in the past, and you will love it! There's nothing that beats gathering some fresh lavender to add to a warm bath to soothe your nerves. I've also done some baking with culinary lavender but my family did not care for the rather exotic taste:)

Fresh lavender in the bath sounds fantastic, Donna, and very pretty too. I've got to get lavender for my little balcony - I can't resist it any more! Yes the taste is a little more adventurous. As I write, I'm remembering lavender chocolate. Yummmmm. Thanks for your lovely comments.

I love the idea of growing something in your garden that you can use as crafts. What a terrific idea and what a beautiful plant lavender is in mass.

Thanks for the comment ktrapp. Yes, it's a gorgeous plant isn't it. I love plants that have extra uses beyond looking pretty in the garden. Makes life richer, and I love the history and culture that surrounds them too.

This is a great list of resources. That last one about the field and perfume is amazing. I can't imagine being in a whole field of that fragrance.

I had lavender growing in my garden until it eventually died. I really enjoyed the fragrance, and enjoyed making the lavender wands. I think I might have to add it to the garden again this year. They do tend to draw bees, so this time, I won't plant them so close to the door!

I haven't been to these lavender farms yet, but have always wanted to go to one. I'll manage it one day. Good point about the bees, it's good to encourage them, but not too close to the house!

Not only is lavender my favorite color I also love the smell of lavender. Placing all of these hubbers in this hub was beautiful and now I am looking forward to what you have to say about Lavender to! Nicely written hub and thoroughly enjoyed! :)

Thanks AE. Yes the colour is great isn't, I really enjoyed picking out the pictures for this reason, and then even some of the ads that came up on the page toned in! If I come up with an original angle on Lavender that hasn't already been written about, I will definitely do that. Many thanks for your kind comments.
