The Best Portable and Affordable Dehumidifiers for Your Home

Maintaining an even humidity in your home not only makes you, your pets, and your family feel better it’s also better for your plants and electronics. And I think ladies are well aware of the problems excessive humidity creates for your hair! There is nothing more miserable than experiencing that muggy, hot feeling to kill your mood.

Excessive humidity is also a breeding ground of mold and mildew which can severely impact the health of you and your family if left unchecked.

Now if we were all millionaires the solution would be simple… move to a location that does not have humidity problems or dump a ton of money into completely redoing your home HVAC systems. How many of us can do this?

Fortunately there is a less expensive solution and that’s the portable home dehumidifier.

Frigidaire FAD504TDD 50-Pint Dehumidifier

At less than $200 the Frigidaire FAD504TDD offers an inexpensive solution to the humidity problem. This model is energy star compliant so it won’t cost you an arm and leg to keep operating. It features complete electronic controls, an easy to access collection containers, and washable filter. At 39lbs not everyone will be able to comfortably lift the Frigidaire FAD504TDD so casters are built in making it very easy for you to move from room to room.

The FAD504TDD by Frigidaire is Amazon’s Best Selling model of dehumidifier. With more than 80 customer reviews at the time of this writing it’s a clear winner.

Customer Response:

On low fan it's VERY quiet and on medium fan is MODERATELY loud but not in an unpleasant way - much quieter than my old one (that one sounded like an airplane landing). The air draws in from the front and comes out the side... which I love because I can put an air purifier to the side it exits so - TADA - not only DRY air, but dry CLEAN air...great.

The 50-pint bucket is a nice feature, I can generally go 2 full nights without having to empty it but note that 50-pints is pretty heavy. The water tray is easy to remove, if you're careful, and there's a handle to lift the bucket once you slide it from the unit that makes carrying it much easier.

After just 19 of total 48 hours of running this unit we have removed over 6 + GALLONS of water from the air - Do not use A/C - too many years of cooped up in offices. Adds only 3 to 4 kWh to normal 24hr usage of 8 - way less than a load of laundry.

Frigidaire FAD704TDP 70-Pint Dehumidifier

Need a bit more capacity to clear a larger area or excessive moisture then step up to the big brother for only a few dollars more. Place the Frigidaire FAD704TDP next to a suitable drain and run it 24/7 for complete convenience. At only 45lbs it’s not going to take up much space and like it’s little brother this model is completely portable and situated on casters.

Customer Response:

I have a 200 year old home with a basement approximately 5 feet below ground depth so fairly damp. This unit's been great so far and I love the fact you can set the humidity level (I keep at 50%). With all the rain we had in the northeast this past March it's been running steady for over 4 weeks but without issue.

Ours is a damp basement space and this dehumidifier really does a thorough, quick, and QUIET job of drying it out. Well designed for easy water-removal; we couldn't be more satisfied.
