The Cardinal Rule Is To Buy Food On Sale. Family Breakfast. Loosing A Little Weight.

Updated on May 19, 2012

If you need to save money, and reduce expenses then consider buying food on sale. I always look for sale items. I found out more, or less the kind of items Joann, and Becky enjoy. Becky likes food that she can conveniently grasp with her one good hand. Items like hot dogs, corn dogs, soft chocolate candy, easy to hold Debbie cakes, potato chips, meat in chunks, or small pieces. Our daughter Becky enjoys drinks, but only in certain types of containers. Her cups must be easy to grip, lightweight, easy to keep clean, and can work well with straws. My wife Joann likes certain types of sliced turkey. I look for sales in their specific food desires. Cereals of their choice that might come on sale. Certain foods I know they will eat , I will buy if they are on sale. By doing this I will save money, and if I save money I can buy more of the food they like. By saving money you can by extra food.

You can buy good food by buying it on sale. We have to save money because we have many things we must buy. Becky uses a lot of disposable undergarments so we set aside about sixty to one hundred dollars a month just for throw away briefs. We set aside a certain amount of money for medicine, vitamins, gasoline, and for bills. We are never late paying bills. When you're late that gives the bill collectors, and opportunity to collect more money from you on late fees, so be very careful, and pay credit card bills on time, and electric bills on time , or any bill on time otherwise you may find yourself losing almost twenty five dollars a month on late fees. Credit card companies will not mess around. I hate to put it this way, but they are wretched if you are late paying them. They can charge you easily thirty nine dollars, and they are tricky. If you are mailing a credit card payment you better mail it early because the U.S. mail has slowed down by cutting back on workers. This means it takes more days for you're payments to get to their offices on time. If you are working by the hour, thirty nine dollars is half of your day of work sweat. A hard working man, or woman does not appreciate it at all. The best thing you can learn how to do is to use the automated bill paying systems because they normally do not charge a fee if you use them.

If you have a credit card pay you're bill on time. If you must have a card, get one without, and annual fee.

If you can pay you're bill by telephone without being charged fourteen to fifteen dollars for doing it, then take advantage of that opportunity. Some people pay their bills with computers, but be sure you are doing it correctly.

We usually pay our bills using the automated systems, or by talking to the customer service agents. Always ask agents if they charge before you get their help . Sometimes agents will wave their fees. Capitol One Bank Credit Card Agents never charge a fee when you pay their credit card bills by telephone. This is a safe way to pay a credit card bill. You will save the cost of a postage stamp. Don't be nervous about paying a bill by phone because agents will take you threw the process carefully. Remember that some agents from some companies, or banks will charge you a fee. If they are going to charge you a fee , then you do not need their help. Make sure you clear that up first. " Sir ! Will you charge me if I use you're help?"

When grocery shopping look for the sales. Try to find meat items on sale, and make sure the meat is fresh. Do you think seasonings for food is cheap in those packets ? Heck No ! A lot of times simple things like seasonings for red beans can be expensive. Computers are handy. Use you're computer to save yourself money. A few days ago I found out the ingredients in order to season beef stew. Using my computer I found out all the necessary ingredients to use. A simple pack of good beef stew seasoning can cost almost two dollars depending on the brand. By simply typing , what are the ingredients for beef stew , a lot of sites, and recipes came up by using Google. Here is what I wrote down : I need 2 cups flour, 4 teaspoons oregano,2 tablespoons basil, 4 1/4 tablespoons salt, 4 1/4 tablespoons black pepper, 4 1/4 tablespoons garlic powder, 4 1/4 tablespoons parika, 1 teaspoon cayene pepper, 2 tablespoons celery seed, 4 1/4 tablespoons onion powder, 2 teaspoons rosemary, and 2 pounds of meat for beef stew.

Cut you're stew meat in the size chunks you like, and put everything in you're crock pot . Add water I suppose. Don't remember how much. Have to check the computer again.

Anything you can do to save some money do it. I have a van that needs to be used once in a while. It has not been used in about five years. I have been paying insurance on it like a fool .Maybe I will drop the insurance until I either want to start using it again. Maybe I will simply sell it if I get the money I want for it.

Every morning we now use toasted bread with our food. I think the toast has been helping me to lose a little weight. It is too early to tell, but I think so. In the morning Joann, and I drink coffee, and have toast with either bacon, or ham depending on whatever is on sale. I have ten packs of baloney in our freezer. I had twenty packs of hot dogs. If you can buy a head of lettuce for less than a dollar, then buy it. If you like sandwiches keep mustard, mayonaise, catsup , and lettuce. Tomatoes are nice if you can afford them. I have seen tomatoes as expensive as Marylyn Monroe. A dollar for a tomatoe !!! Two dollars for a Tomatoe !!! This is when I love my catsup squeeze bottle. Did you know that catsup is made out of tomatoes . Buy the best catsup in the world , and be a happy camper, and squirt your tomatoe on you're sandwhich from you're catsup bottle, or grow tomatoes in you're own back yard, and have fun doing it.

Once in a while Joann likes to shop for groceries , or to simply get in the car to do as she pleases. I always ask Becky, or Joann if they would like to go places. Lately I try to get them away from the house more. Too much being around the house can make the outside world a strange place.

When you're older, and have disabilities a home becomes like you're security blanket. If you have been shut in, or indoors too much, you need to get the heck out of the house once in a while. It can be difficult for disabled citizens to want to get out of their homes.

If Joann, and I want to take a simple ride in a car , first we have to make sure Becky is wearing clean under garments , and proper clothes. The wheelchair must be lifted , and placed in our trunk, be pulled out of our trunk , and lifted. Becky has to be manuevered carefully in a seat making sure her feet are moved in properly to a comfortable position. Attachments to her chair have to be taken apart , and placed in the trunk. If we go to a store all together, and only to one store, Becky must be lifted four times, and her wheelchair lifted, and handled four times. Before we go to medical doctors it takes us two hours of preperation to have everything with us that we need.

If you know someone who is a shut in, or elderly, or disabled that might appreciate a simple ride in a car to get a cold soda pop, or to eat a cup of ice cream, such events would be very rewarding to them.

Keep you're car checked for oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, windshield cleaning, and rinsing water, or fluid, visually examine you're tire presure. You can look at you're car to see if the tires need air. Let someone who maintains cars examine you'r brake fluid, transmission, and power steering fluids.

God Bless Everyone.

Dear Phoenix : Thanks again for writing. You seem to manage your affairs well, and thats what it takes to survive because there living expenses are high. We rarely go anywhere unless we must get things done, or to deal with medical appointments.

We found a local discount pharmacy that is right next to our hospital. You can save a few dollars on medicine by finding discount pharmacies.

Wishing you, and Gary a pleasant spring, and summer. GBY.

Great ideas once again for handling our finances.I really dislike paying interest on anything as well so we try to pay our credit card in full every month. There have been a few times we had to make larger purchases with our card and it took a couple of months or more to pay it off, but that is the exception and not the rule. We always pay bills first too and whatever is left over goes for food, gas and replacing something that is absolutely worn out. I consider our pet's food and medicines as bills and our medicine too but I can adjust our food and even the gas we use by just staying home. I used to use coupons a lot but since Gary's been sick I don't have the time to keep them up the way I used to. My time with him is most important to me right now.
