Best Vegetable Slicers Reviewed

Updated on November 3, 2010

Kitchen slicers are great gadgets to have in your kitchen. Slicers are generally known for their use in cutting meat, but many of the recent models are to cut vegetables, fruit and cheese. Except for the ones used for meat and other meat products, they have also become a lot smaller.

The slicers used for vegetables are often called "mandoline," slicers. Want to slice cucumbers to perfection? Buy a mandoline slicer. If you enjoy eating salads, these really are great at helping with your presentation.

There are a number of different kinds of slicers and these are the best I have found. All of them are from reputable makers and good value for money.

The first of the slicers featured is this one from Progressive International. It really is so easy to use without much fuss. The blade is really sharp and it quickly slices the vegetables.

You just push a veggie to another into another. A reminder though, since you are about to use this quality slicer with very sharp blades you have to be always cautious to avoid being cut. This slicer is also easy to clean and it comes with a variety of widths.

The storage box is great as well. It organizes and stores the slicer and accessories after the slicing.  Say goodbye to difficult slicing with a knife. And never look back. Amazon sell these for $14 at the moment. As far as I am concerned, this is a great deal at this price.

Perfect for health-conscious people, this really knows the right slice for raw vegetables. It slices just about anything with ease. The blades are pretty sharp and aside from the one already in place it also comes with 3 more blades. The extra blades with different styled edges are easy to detach and change out.

It is good for slicing anything from fruits to zucchini. It also has suction cups that help prevent it from sliding around. Aside from that, it is easy to clean, looks good and is very well designed.

The blades are extremely sharp, and definitely need to be kept away from children. It works differently to the previous mandoline slicer as you rotate the fruit or vegetables instead of running them across the blade up and down.

More expensive than the previous model also, but you will be able to put a much larger quantity of foods through this one and still a great deal at under $30.

This is an affordable item and the price does not reflect the high quality. Although not as well made as a typical stainless steel slicer, its performance is impeccable. It slices fast and you can slice, julienne or shred. The sharpness of the blades is excellent; cleaning is a breeze and the stainless steel safety guard protect youir fingers form accidental cuts.

It takes up very little space, stands flat and has a variety of blades and slice thicknesses. All in all a great quality machine for what I consider to be a bargain price of under $60. Do not be fooled by the price - this compares favorably to most "professional," grade slicers.

German surgical standard steel blades and ease of cleaning make this one a big winner.

This is a spiral slicer and as such is very safe. Unlike the previous models, everything here stays covered up, so you are not at risk of cuts. This one allows you to make ribbons, spiral strands or slices, great for fancy presentation dishes.

Perhaps not quite as aggressively perfect as the previous model - if you want to be able to create the occasional fancy salad, this is a wonderful device, and at around $16, well worth the money. If you are a hardcore cook, buy the previous model, if you like to dabble occasionally and look like an expert - buy this one.

Great for those interested in eating raw foods though, because of the slicing and presentation options. I really like this one for occasional chefs. Very good value for money.

If you are looking for a mandoline, this one is perfect. At first glance, the over all design speaks for itself. From the blades to the handle it really is of the highest quality. But the price is not really an issue because this thing is more than its price.

The adjustable width feature is superb, allowing yo to easily switch widths with the turn of a knob. You also get 4 extra attachments that allow you to do different types of cuts. Not a big fan of the rough cuts, but I can see the appeal. Well worth the nmoney again and Amazon sell them for around $35.

It packs down flat, is solidly built and made from stainless steel, so should last indefinitely. Another highly recommended slicer.
