You can create and keep an organized home with some time and commitment. The trick is to make it a priority and devote time to it. Here are some tips that can help you do just that.

Making It a Daily Task
Let’s face it, your home is not going to organize itself. There is work involved in getting and keeping it organized. One of the easiest ways to get and keep your home organized is to incorporate organizing into your daily schedule. You will need to make time for it at first but once it becomes part of your routine, you will just do it without thinking about it. It takes approximately 21 days for something to become a habit so commit to making organizing part of your day for the next 21 days and see what happens.

Write Down Your List
If you are trying to create an organized home, you have a list running in your head of what is driving you crazy about your house. Write that list down on paper and post it where you will see it daily. Committing a list into a written list can be a powerful tool. This way it is not just one of the many things competing for attention in your head everyday, it is on paper and it makes it into a task rather than just an idea. I know that when I don’t write something down, I forget it or it gets pushed off until later. When I write it down, it becomes something that I feel like I need to accomplish.

Identify a Primary Target
My primary nemesis in keeping my home organized is paper. I have a hard time keeping it all in check and knowing when to throw something away. The result is that I often have a pile of papers on the counter in the kitchen and on the desk in my office. When I do finally take the time to get and keep these areas organized, I am more productive and feel better about myself and my home. I am working on organizing these areas at least weekly to keep the paper beast at bay. What is the biggest problem in your home? Identify what it is and come up with a plan to tackle it. Overcoming the problems in this one area will likely inspire you to get an organized home in all areas.
