Toilet Paper : Under Or Over Which Way Do You Hang It
Over or under? Folded or straight? People are obsessed with how the roll should be placed on the roller. Polling my friends I found that there was a 50/50 split when it came to hanging the toilet paper.
Why are we so obsessed with the roll that comes in many plies, colors, soft, hard, thick or thin? All of us are particular about the brands and the texture.
People will choose Scott's Tissue because the claim is, that it lasts longer and is easy on the budget. Others choose Charmin, Northern or Cottonelle because it comes in different plies and is softer. Choosing toilet paper, T-P or tissue depends if like your toilet paper made out of virgin products which are formed from chipped wood or recycled paper. Does it matter how it is made? That all depends on the individual who is using it.
So what is the over under obsession when it is used quickly and flushed away into oblivion never to be seen again? After a long discussion with friends, all of us decided it was all about choice. Yes choice. But the wonderful folks at Engineering Degree have taken the time to make a science of it.
The scientific approach was started as a marketing campaign for Engineering Degree, a resource for would-be engineers. They believe there are advantages of our toilet paper being hung under or over.
Hung Over Advantages:
A. Easier to grab the tissue tiles .
B. Location access is easier when grabbing the end.
C. Less likely to gather germs or scrape knuckles on the wall.
The engineers also looked at personality traits and found advantages of a person who hung toilet over.
A. Over Achiever
B. Stays Organized
C. Always taking charge
Hung Under Advantages:
A. During an earthquake it is less likely for the roll to unravel
B. Children and animals are less likely to grab the roll and unravel it on the floor.
C. The appearance tends to be more tidy.
A. Very dependable
B. Quite artistic
C. Completely laid back
Notice they did not mention anything about germs being on the tissue? One can only hope that nobody uses the first tissue tile, imagine what is on that?
If you are a person who is all about going-green here is something you need to consider. One tree generates approximately 100 pounds of toilet paper. 83 million rolls are produced a day. We destroy 27,000 trees daily to make toilet paper. Think of how many trees produce oxygen and how long it takes for one tree to grow!
If you are a person like myself who is obsessed with which way your toilet paper hangs. Remember soon- to- be engineers say it is all in the personality of the person. Are you creative? Do you like to be in control? Laid back? Organized? Or dependable? That soft round roll you have in your bathroom can tell a story about your personality. So the next time you think someone is hanging out in your bathroom far to long, it could be they are reading who you are while unraveling the roll.
