In regards to tankless showers for outdoor use, there are also a couple of other good models besides the Eccotemp L5. They’ve also got a larger capacity model, the Eccotemp L10 which provides 2.6 gallons per minute (opposed to the L5’s 1.4 gpm) and nearly twice the heating power. At 24 pounds, it also weighs almost twice as much as the L5 which may be a little less practical for everyday camping situations.

Camp Chef also has a good outdoor tankless shower option, their HWDS Triton which is a popular alternative to the Eccotemp L5 because it has a self-standing feature that makes it convenient for portable, outdoor use.

There’s a good side-by-side comparison of all 3 outdoor tankless camping showers at this page

After installing two 50 KW multi stage tankless electric hot water heaters ($2000.00 materials only), centrally located for 7 hot water connections 4 months ago, I can now see the efficacy of adding 7 hot water recirculators

(an additional $1200.00 materials only) to eliminate costly temperature loss in the long piping runs. OR, perhaps, even remove the current system, & install 7 electric point of use tankless hot water heaters, 1 at each of the hot water faucets. Depending on cost, I really need to do one or the other...

I'd recommend consumers take a look at for their purchase decisions. This top 10 list is lacking products which weigh warranty, EF, min gpm (some have ZERO). As stated, pvc pipe v. stainless. Very important to the consumers information.

Sorry my metion to stainless steel pipe and PVC pipe is in regaurd to the venting system. The Stainless steel is like 20 times the price of the PVC.

Well I glade to see site like this with infromation, but feel your site really only hits the retail units. Navien tankless is not metioned at all on this site. The units that you do list all used special stainless steel pipe, where the Navien uses PVC pipe. The other fact to is there mention about circulating tankless hot water tanks at all. These tankless systems allow the hot water to be almost on demand instant hot water VS wating for the water to travel thourgh the house. I hope this site can overall get some more brands of tankless and compare what really out there, not what Home Depot or Lowes is selling.

These units are for inside the home.

For those who are looking for outdoor water heater or camping shower solutions, the Eccotemp L5 tankless water heater works the same way as the home versions, albeit smaller. This gas tankless water heater heats the water instantaneously at a rate of 1.4 gallon/minute using propane gas. There are other brands out there but haven't tried them.

Here's a good demonstration of the Eccotemp L5 in action on YouTube:

I just bought a Takagi point of use tankless hot water heater to heat the water in my soaking tub. Now when I fill my tub, someone can still take a shower after and there is still hot water.
