Top Extended Reach Electric Hedge Trimmers - Black & Decker, Earthwise, McCulloch, WORX

So one of my reads asked me a question a week or so past regarding a exteneded reach hedge trimmer. I did not know the answer to the question (regarding whether a specific model is a good buy or not) AND I have a hedge in front of my house that is starting to look like some kind of 15ft tall prehistoric off I went in search of a reliable device to help tame my green-leafy dragon!!

After spending most of the afternoon talking with hardware store guru's and scouring the internet I was able to identify 4 pretty decent options. Unfortunately, there are just not a lot of do-it-yourself type options. There are professional gas powered pole trimmers, but they are all in the $400 price range...which is about $300 more than my budget! Hope this article helps some of you out!

#1 - Earthwise CVPH41018 18-Inch 2.8 Amp Electric 2-in-1 Pole/Hand Held Hedge Trimmer

The earthwise is the clear winner in this category. I am a big fan of this device and it is the one that I ended up getting for myself. It is a good price (Amazon again is the overall price winner unless you can get one of the 10% off coupons for Home Depot, where it is SLIGHTLY cheaper, but Amazon also helps you avoid sales tax in most states.) Light, easy to use, good reach and enough power to get the job done...and GREAT price!!

#2 - Black & Decker LPHT120 22-Inch 20-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Pole Hedge Trimmer

The Black and Decker is a GREAT #2 and I would even put it as a #1 choice if you are someone that needs a little more power or a little more reach (it is 22 inches instead of the 18 inch blade for the Earthwise.) And someone that wants the the cordless model. This one also weighs a little more so it is a better fit for someone with a bigger job and who can handle the bigger size. Still under $100 so a pretty good deal and a much better idea than trying to duck-tape your normal hedge trimmer to a pole (TRIED IT!)

#3 - Black & Decker NPT318 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Hedge Trimmer

#3 on the list is a little different in that it is a smaller cordless option. I wanted to add that in as I know in some cases people are trimming too far away from power and would need a cordless option but do not need or want to mess with a gas powered option. There are downsides to the battery option (less power, more expensive and the batteries do wear out.) BUT, if you need the cordless option and maybe have other compatible battery devices, this is a good option!

#4 - TrimmerPlus AH720 Add-On Hedge Trimmer (Troy Built Attachement)

As a bonus, I wanted to throw out a option that my neighbor has. This requires that you have one of the Troy-Bilt trimmers with EZ link technology. If you have one of those, this attachment turns it into a extended reach hedge trimmer with some real power and a great price!

      Your comments onthe extended trimmer question I had especially about Remington is very helpful. No stores in my area carry the Remington anymore, although my neighbor seems to be happy with it. I'll now be on the hunt locally for the Earthwise. Again...THANK YOU.
