Turquoise & Green Room Decorating Ideas
Using Turquoise In Home Decorating
The color turquoise got its name from the blue-to-green opaque mineral, turquoise, which has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. The gem, which is valuable in finer grades (usually the more blue the better, with the greener hues considered to be of low grade) is used for making jewelries. This difference in hues can also be seen in the color variance, thus we have turquoise blue, and turquoise green.
When I think of decorating with the color turquoise, I usually don't see an entire room painted in turquoise as the color can be a little overwhelming. To have an entire room covered in turquoise can also present a challenge when it comes to decorating that room, but it has, and can been done.
My idea of a turquoise room, whether it's a living room, bedroom, or kitchen, is to have a blend of other colors incorporated into a room partially covered in turquoise paint. So, lets explore a few decorating ideas that I've put together to help make your next turquoise room decorating project a success.
Mixing Turquoise With A Blend of Other Colors
When decorating with the color turquoise, the best way to accomplish an eye popping effect is to use the turquoise minimally by blending your decors. One way to do this is to explore painting your walls all one color or, play around with other colors, preferably pastels (it's just easier to paint over, should you change your mind).
Colors such as, yellow, pink, orange, coral, and lime green are awesome colors that helps give your turquoise room a more appealing look. So, if you're thinking of painting your wall a turquoise color, consider doing the followings:
- Use a blend of turquoise and any one or two of the aforementioned colors for your wall paint.
- If painting a four-wall room, use turquoise on three of the walls, and one of the above pastels on the fourth wall.
- If you choose to have a room painted entirely with turquoise, then opt for décor accents that are more in the pastel (coral, pink, lime green etc.) range of colors. Also, using white to off-white furniture is a more ideal way to give your turquoise room that airy feeling everyone wants in a room.

Not Sure About A Turquoise Colored/Painted Wall?
Changing the color of a room's wall can sometimes be scary step for some people. We all tend to like what we're already comfortable with.
I know I felt that way when I needed to change my living room wall from a sage green to this color. You wonder if you'll end up hating the new color and have to live with a room you may not like.
So, if you're not sure about painting your walls a turquoise color, and you currently have a white, off-white, or somewhat neutral wall color, consider experimenting with turquoise décor accents. Try the following:
- Use Decorative Pillows - If you're not interested in painting, invest in some turquoise or turquoise blend decorative pillows instead. Toss a few of them on your sofa or chair for a quick room upgrade.
- Use Colorful Lamp Shade. Preferably Turquoise - You can replace your old lamp shades with new ones with a turquoise blend.
- Use Turquoise Colored Centerpiece - Place a turquoise colored/blend centerpiece on your coffee table.
- Use Turquoise Ottoman - There are some beautiful, colorful ottomans out there. Use a turquoise ottoman to accents your furniture and enhance the look of room.
It's very easy to get the look you want with these very simple, easy to do ideas. They are not only practical, but also inexpensive.
Using decors to accents your existing furniture is especially key if you're not ready to make that bold leap into an entirely new color theme. Try some colorful room accents here and there to get a feel for what the big color change might look like.

Be Inspired - Great Decorative Ideas
Many decorating ideas are usually birthed from something we love dearly and we want so much to keep it around the house and make it fit in with every other thing we have or own. Think about that thing you love. Maybe it's just the color of 'it'. Here are some examples:
Decorating around a favorite piece of furniture - If you just love a piece of furniture in your home, you could actually center your entire home decoration around that piece of furniture. Say, a sofa with such bold color as red or purple. You could make simple changes as to repainting your room around that sofa, giving your room a whole new look.
Decorating around your carpet - Love a carpet that's bursting with colors! It just makes it easy to decorate around. Zero in on one or two of these colors in the carpet using matching decorative pillows or lamps. You could even repaint your wall around the carpet.
Painting the ceiling of your room with a color that pops - A very bold move indeed, but it is doable and will definitely change the look of your home, and give you a whole lot of options to work with as you can then add a few matching décor accents and make 'it' pop even more by decorating your home around this favorite of yours by using the followings:
- Throw and decorative pillows.
- Wall colors that brings 'it' to focus.
- Other decors of same or complimenting color blends.
Here's a video that further reiterates my point.
Colors That Blends Well with Turquoise
From all the images above, you will agree with me that turquoise is a beautiful color to decorate with. But sometimes even the most beautiful idea don't stand alone. Here is a list of some of the colors on this hub that makes turquoise stands out even more. These colors blends well when used as accents colors with the color turquoise.
- Espresso Brown
- Lime Green
- White, Black
- Antique Yellow, and
Use these colors sparingly with turquoise to get that 'wow' factor. See for yourself.
Have fun decorating!
Remember, it's easier decorating when you have something to decorate around. It could be a sofa, a bed set, comforter set, or carpet. You name it! Once you have your focus, you can begin decorating all at once or make gradual changes. See if you like what you see, and then proceed to make more changes.
It helps sometimes to document your small changes as you go by taking pictures of the before and after. Have fun decorating!
Another great decorating idea.
