Use Branches to Make a Decorative Wall Sign
Bringing the Outdoors In
I love nature and I love to bring items from the outdoors into my home. I made these particular pieces in a very short amount of time using things I found in my yard. It is a simple project that can be altereded in many ways depending on the materials you have available in your yard.
The first step in making branch art is getting outdoors and finding some great objects to work with. You'll need a variety of branches, pine cones, birch bark or whatever else speaks to you. Let your inner hippie guide you!
Assembling the Branches
Once you have gathered all your branches, etc. and finished hugging all your trees you'll need to dig out your trusty glue gun! The glue gun will do most of the work, but I found that having some durable embroidery thread was also very helpful.
After deciding what type of sign you are going to make, begin forming and breaking the branches to make your letters. Use the glue gun to glue them together, and remember they aren't going to stand up completely straight until the glue is all dried. Luckily, hot glue dries fast. If you are making a heart shape, a more flexible branch would be needed. When the branches are too dry and brittle they will snap under very little pressure, however if you soak the branches in water first they may be more flexible. The embroidery thread comes in handy for wrapping branches together. Make sure to secure the end of the thread with hot glue. The possibilities for this project are endless and I plan on trying several more ideas. Branch art is a great way to bring nature into your home!
