Finding A Good Vacuum Cleaner
With so many different brands and types of vacuum cleaners on the market, finding a vacuum cleaner that is both affordable and works well is not easy. We have been living in houses that have both carpets and bare floors. So during the pass twenty-four years I have bought different brands and types of vacuum cleaners. Some of them broke within two years of using and I had to return one of them to store after the first try because all the dust it sucked in came right out from the back. Only two of them I am happy with and have been using them for the past ten years. Here are the ones that I think are worth of the money: Eureka bagless upright vacuum cleaner and Eureka Superbroom. Although both of them are designed for carpet as well as bare floors, I find that Eureka bagless upright vacuum cleaner works better on carpet while Eureka Superbroom works better for bare floors. I first got them at Target while they sold them both for about eighty dollars. they are inexpensive vacuum cleaners compared to the other vacuum cleaners that I used to buy that cost more than two hundred dollars. I had assumed that these two cheap vacuum cleaners wouldn't last long. I was impressed and happy when they went past the ten years mark. They are not perfect but they do help keep our house clean and their cost is inexpensive. I bought a newer model of these two vacuum cleaners last year after we moved to our new home and donated the upright vacuum cleaner but kept the Superbroom to handle cleaning the garage.

How to Use the Vacuum Cleaner - Eureka Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Eureka bagless upright vacuum cleaner is very easy and simple to use. It works well on both carpets and bare floors. It can automatically adjust its height when transitioning between carpet and bare floor. It is light and has only one power button for on and off so you won't get confused. It is located by the connection between the handle and the bottom portion of the vacuum. You can use your foot to turn it on and off because the power button is quite large.
There is also another button for lowering the handle to less than 90 degrees so that you can push the vacuum cleaner more easily back and forth when using it.
Since this is a corded vacuum you do need to have an electrical outlet available in order to operate the vacuum cleaner. The cord is about 25 feet long and if you could plug it into an outlet that is at the mid-point of the carpet area, you probably won't need to find another outlet.
The Eureka bagless upright vacuum cleaner comes with vacuum accessories such as extensions for reaching high and low areas, brush for dusting and a tube with a small and flat opening for vacuuming edges and corners. These are also helpful for vacuuming inside cars and other vehicles.
Pro: It has a very strong suction. You'll have a very clean floor after vacuuming. The container that holds the garbage is very easy to clean. You can use water to wash it because it is plastic. The filter can also be cleaned and reused.
Con: The noise level increases quite a bit when you use it to vacuum bare flooring. The holster that connects to the motor side is easy to come off. I often have to push it back in few times during vacuuming.
How to Use the Vacuum Cleaner - Eureka Superbroom
The operation of Eureka Superbroom bagless vacuum is even simpler. It weights about 4 pounds. Even my eight-year-old can use it to vacuum the house. There is a button next to the control labels for "off, floors and carpets." If you want to vacuum bare floors, you should push the button down next to the "floors" label. If you want to vacuum your carpet, then of course you want the bottom be next to "carpets".
The difference between the operations of "floors" and "carpets" is that the brush rod will spin in order to brush up any dust or garbage that are trapped in the carpets while vacuuming at the same time.
If you want to use Superbroom as a handheld vacuum cleaner, all you need to do is to push the button to release the handle.
Pro:
This super broom is also bagless and has a very strong suction and can suck up a lot of garbage such as hair, small pieces of paper and even grains of uncooked rice that I spilled one time. It is a 2-in-1 vacuum. You can detach the stick handle and convert it into a handheld vacuum cleaner which is very handy when you use it for the car or stairs. The size of it is also perfect to get into small spaces such as in between a toilet and a wall. The handle can be lowered close to the ground so that you can easily vacuum the space underneath your bed.
Con:
When you turn the switch to "carpet", whatever gets sucked up that are long will just get tangled around the brushes and wrap around the rod. It is very difficult to remove them unless you can carefully cut them off from the brushes. But then there would be a pile of garbage for you to clean up after that. Therefore I don't use it for carpet any more and I let the Eureka bagless upright vacuum cleaner do the carpet work.

How to Clean the Filter in A Vacuum Cleaner
Cleaning the filter of an Eureka Superbroom vacuum is simple.
- Have a garbage can close by
- Unlock the container that holds garbage from Eureka Superbroom
- Carefully separate the filter from the container
- Remove all the garbage that is attached to the filter as well as inside the container into the garbage can
- Put the filter back into its position inside the container
Cleaning the filter of Eureka bagless upright vacuum cleaner can be done in different ways. Here are the two methods I use the most:
- It would be the best if you have another filter ready or another vacuum cleaner because you can use a brush with a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the garbage. We have the same type of vacuum cleaner as my mother-in-law and clean our filter this way all the time. It is the easiest and fastest way to remove all the dust and garbage that gets trapped in the filter. The filter will look like a brand new one.
- You can also use a toothpick to carefully remove the large chunk of garbage in the filter. Then put the filter inside an air tight plastic bag. Shake off the remaining dust while tightly closing the bag opening. Before taking the filter out from the plastic bag, wait for a minute or two after you're done shaking it. Then wipe off any dust on the filter with a damp paper towel.

Great review on this very important appliance in our homes! Thanks for the tips on what to look for - voted up!
Being a man I try to just think of vacuums as all the same but it is hard to continue thinking this when you clearly show there are different kinds out there.
Voted up and useful
Sounds like you went through a similar process to me with Vacuum cleaners Kitty - I lost count of the ones that gave up the ghost on me. I have one now that's lasted 7 years and is going strong, so I'm pleased about that.
I want a superbroom now! It's so hard to keep floors clean with little children. Voted up!
