Nothing adds ambience to a room like a fireplace. The cozy, warm feeling is unlike anything else and is entirely rustic and natural. With the invention of ventless gas fireplaces comes the possibility for any room to have a hearth.  Unvented gas fireplace burners can be safely installed in a home without a flue or a chimney.  Built in safety features read oxygen levels and ensure all the gas is burned clean for indoor use.  But a fireplace is more than looks. Instead of a gas fueled heater a fireplace provides heat while changing the design of a room.

Fireplaces can be vented or vent-free.   Vented gas log fireplaces have a vent through the roof, an outer wall of the home or an existing chimney. Ventilation  allows the fire to breathe using oxygen from outside while expelling carbon monoxide caused by burning gas.  Unvented fireplaces are gas powered and need  little or no vent for the fire to breathe.  Less carbon monoxide is produced, oxygen is monitored and the gas log design ensures a clean burning flame.

Gas log fireplaces have been rustic traditional representations of wood burning fireplaces for several decades.  Recently alternatives that display a more contemporary flame for modern home design became popular but has been unavailable for ventless gas fireplaces.  Only in recent years have vent-free gas fireplaces begun to utilize new aesthetics for alternative designs.  Ventless gas fireplaces have become popular because they are easy to install, easy to control, easy to clean and now unvented gas fireplaces have a lot more design options than what type of wood to mimic.

One new design for unvented gas fireplaces is fireballs made of the same material as ceramic gas logs so they are just as safe and impervious to flame. Fireballs are available in many different sizes and colors. Vented gas log fireplace sets will include several different sizes of spheres and semi-spheres that can be piled or arranged on any way you wish.  Vent-free gas fireplaces have a fixed design to the logs and alternative fire balls are no different.  Fire balls stack like old fashioned cannon balls in a pyramid fashion leaving gaps for the gas flames to push through.

Fire shape fireplace options are made into geometric shapes. Cylinders, squares, cones, pyramids and spheres are available in a variety of sizes and colors to make a new and interesting flame pattern unknown with the ceramic logs of the past.  Vented gas fire shape fireplaces can stack as many varied sizes and colors as necessary for whichever design a homeowner enjoys.  Ventless gas fire shape fireplaces also stack in a defined system to create flame patterns that look new and modern while clearing the gas flames and minimizing carbon monoxide generated at safe levels indoors.

Fire balls and fire shapes can be combined for a unique look to every fireplace and crushed fire glass that is highly reflective can also be used for colorful accents. The only real difference is that a vented fireplace is able to have flames contacting the log, balls or shapes in any pattern. The resulting carbon monoxide is sent out the flue or vent.  Because carbon is created when a gas flame touches a solid object ventless gas fireplaces keep cannon balls, shapes, logs and fire glass away from the flames by stacking around the fireplace burner.

Vent free fireplaces need to have the flames in less contact with the fire shapes or fire balls. The result is less carbon build up, less clean up, less carbon monoxide production and a few more btu output.

Vent-free fire balls or shapes are arranged on a burner made for ventless fireplaces.  Fireplace burners come in a wide array of sizes but ventless gas fireplace burners are limited to no larger than thirty inches because of the BTU limit that makes indoor vent free fireplace burners safe.  In addition to a control valve limited to forty thousand BTU's gas fireplaces are equipped with an oxygen depletion sensor so if oxygen gets low, an alarm sounds so the flame can be lowered or eventually automatically turned off if no one turns the valve down for less flame.  A thermocouple monitors both the temperature and the presence of a safety pilot light flame.  If the flame gets too hot or if the thermocouple does not determine heat from the pilot the valve immediately closes to stop gas flow in case of a problem.

Fire balls or fire shapes can be arranged differently to achieve a unique look for your fireplace.

Using fire balls or fire shapes is a way to get a contemporary look for a room with a source of heat, light and warmth. When the fireplace is not on it looks like any other fireplace waiting to serve your needs but on fire, the shapes and flame patterns are all new and completely different from the traditional rustic flame we have come to expect. When the gas is turned on and the fireplace is activated the result is a beautiful ambience. The shapes or balls can play with the shadows cast by the flames with new flame patterns and colors that will change our definition of the modern fireplace.

Fireballs and fire shapes for vented and ventless gas fireplaces are available in colors that match just about any room and sizes from 2" diameter to over 12" diameter.  Use a contrasting bed of glass fire to accent the color of the fire balls or fire shapes with highly reflective fire glass. Imagine the look of red balls or shapes on a bed of black glass with a live flame licking around it.

If you are considering a gas fireplace for your home take a moment and think about using fire balls and/or fire shapes for an alternative and contemporary, modern look.   At Grill-Repair.com we have been installing ventless gas fireplaces in Florida and we have been installing the alternative designs years before they were popular.  We have also experimented with traditional gas logs that have a few fire shapes added to hide the valve or some fire glass in a bright contrasting color test and the results have been some very happy clients.

ventless is a real scam.... if anyone believes that venting the product of combustion of any type of fuel into the home is safe.... they are just foolish and misguided.
