Laundry Soap Recipe

Recipe- 1 bar (grated) of laundry soap- Fels Naptha
1 cup borax (in box)
1 cup washing soda- Arm & Hammer (in box)
1/2 cup of oxygenated cleaner- Oxy Clean (in box)

Mix together the powdered ingredients and fold in the Fels Naptha. Store in air tight containers- Ball jars work great. Use one heaping tsp. per load.

By doubling the recipes you should have enough for 120 washes. Your clothing will come out twice as white as before.

Breaking down the costs of homemade laundry soap:
Cost- Soap-1.29 one bar
Borax- 1.00, .50 if you don't dbl recipe (4# box 4.00)
Oxy Clean-.75
Arm & Hammer-1.00

* If you do not have any or all of these products on hand then there will be the initial start up cost. As I have noted above all but the Fels Naptha will be on hand for several batches.
120 washes for $4.04

Great ideas. I have been making my own liquid laundry detergent for some time now, using recycled jugs from when I used to purchase ready made. After awhile, I began using Ivory or Zote soap versus the fels naptha, because of the chemicals in the Fels Naptha. One year, I calculated that I saved over $200 on laundry by making my own.
