Why Air Purifier Reviews are not Customer Friendly

Air purifier reviews are everywhere. Some rave about an air purifier. Some criticize an air purifier. All have an agenda. Reviews are often viewed as helpful perspectives on certain products or services. In the air purifier industry, reviews abound. Some of these reviews come from happy and unhappy customers. Some come from us so-called experts who review and analyze air purifier systems for a living. All these reviews provide helpful information which is why we read them as consumers. But these reviews offer a very limiting perspective. They do not give us the big picture and they usually push an agenda.

The happy customer loves how an air purifier helped them with their problem and they want everyone else to experience the same positives. Their desire is very noble. The problem is, not everyone has the same problem. A person with asthma is experiencing a different problem than a person suffering from odor pollution. There may be some overlap in how some air purifiers help with these issues. But usually, the same air purifier is not going to be excellent at addressing both issues. So many times, what works well for one person, does not work well for another. This brings us to the unhappy customers.

A certain segment of unhappy customers have run into quality and functional issues with the air purifier. These concerns are understandable. As people, when we have a negative experience, we are much less likely to attempt that experience again, even if the negative aspect was a fluke, or a one in a million possibility. So the contrast in some reviews between happy and unhappy customers can be explained by the first negative experience such as an air purifier breaking down or not working when it is opened and plugged in. Other unhappy customers find that the air purifier did not work the way they wanted it to. They had unrealistic expectations such as buying a cheap air purifier and expecting it to solve their air quality problems, the company misrepresented the capabilities of the air purifier, or the customer did not understand how the air technology works and did not use the air purifier properly. This captures the contrast you will often see when you read customer reviews on shopping websites.

  3. Why the same air purifier can be reviewed so negatively by some and so positively by others
  4. Understand the cost to value benefit of one air purifier to another.
  5. Understand how to choose a good air purifier

They are what I call 'not customer friendly' reviews.

The second type of reviews are those provided by the so-called experts. These so-called experts develop elaborate rating systems for reviewing the air purifiers. They also provide valuable information and yet are not customer friendly. The rating systems are complex to understand. The experts actually take the time to test the claims of many air purifier companies and make recommendations based on a combination of their studies and opinions. The problem is that many of the so-called experts have a narrow focus when it comes to air purification technology. Some of them only believe in the reliability of filter technology to solve serious problems. Others only believe in active purification processes like ionization and ozone and photo catalytic oxidation (PCO) to clean the air. They review all the air purifiers through that narrow lens. Some only care about what is the cheapest on the market. They all rate these air purifiers through a narrow lens; their opinion. The problem is the customer loses out.

Filtration, ionization, ozone, photo catalytic oxidation, electrostatic precipitators, germicidal UV light; they all have their legitimate place in solving indoor air quality problems. The consumer is illiterate when it comes to air quality issues and they are easily swayed by what looks good in the moment. If you are a looking at air purifiers, you need to educate yourself on the technologies and marketplace options.

  • You need to know what types of air purifiers address certain issues.
  • You need to know the cost to benefit ratio of one air purifier compared to another.
  • You need to know what problems you want to address and which types of air purifiers will deal with those problems.
  • You need to know how to use them properly so you get the most out of them.
  • You need to know which options best fit your budget and give you the most in return

Indoor Air Quality is no longer an issue you can treat haphazardly with any random air purifier. In our increasingly polluted and toxic world, it is a growing necessity. It requires good planning and intentional effort. It is an investment in your long-term health and vitality. Treat it like an investment and do your research. You will be much more satisfied with your choices and experience greater benefits.
