Will the ‘Real’ Season Please Stand Up…

Updated on February 3, 2013

Nature Seems Confused!

I have taken all of these photographs in my garden today and it would seem that nature is pretty confused.

Here in the UK, 2011 has seen some crazy weather.

Summer arrived in April and May and we had the hottest Spring on record and one of the driest.

The real Summer in June, July and August was one of the coolest and dullest on record.

Autumn arrived early at the end of August.

From the last week of September upto today we are having a heat wave.

October 1st hit a new record of 29.9°C!

It’s the first week of October, yet there is something from every season in flower.

Winter?

Garden Mums: These Garden Mums have got it right!

Normally these beautiful blooms fill our gardens with colour again in Autumn, as our Summer flowers finish flowering, this year though there is competition for attention.

Our unseasonal temperatures are certainly confusing nature, which is why I am sharing all 4 seasons with you in one day!

Now I’m getting confused….

Sounds as though you have some pretty strange stuff going on your way as well Dardia, our holly tree is still full of berries, normally the Fieldfare have stripped it by the end of October, I guess there is still plenty of food about for them to feast on!

Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated, best wishes MM

Are you sure those weren't weather patterns of Michigan? Lol! We get strange weather here but that is extra strange. Although, I am certain the garden looks lovely, it makes you wonder what is next.

My strawberries have greened back up and I wouldn't doubt it if they started blooming again. The birds here make me think that winter is on it's way and then the stray summer bird shows up and I wonder again. The Canada Geese have not yet began to fly South either. We have Yello-bellied Flycatchers here now in November and they should have migrated through here by the end of September.

Hey MM, that's awesome that you got so much time to enjoy your bounty this year. I live in the US in the north east and we had 10" of snow on 10/29/11 that reeked havoc on all our trees and plants, my ornamental grasses never got to show off their whispies this year. I love to watch them blow in the breeze, but mother nature had other plans for us this year. Great pics!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden through these pics! We've also had some on and off again weather. As a child in Florida there was a long period of predictable weather--a nice good shower every day at 4:00 to give us a break in the heat, lots of sunshine, with a hurricane once in a while. Of course, the weather patterns were very different when my grandparents were young. Now, seems like all of the southeast USA has been going through the change of life lately with seasons starting abruptly early and skipping around. Good thing the flowers don't mind, they just bloom where they are planted! Yours are gorgeous! :)

Such a lovely hub MM. That is some wild weather. Here in West Virginia, it has been a intersting week. Last week, 30s and 40s, this week, 70s and 80s. I really never knew weather patterns in the UK. I would guess winters get bad over there due to your northern position. That is pretty cold for October (29). We go by F, so If I remember correct, that is like near 5 or 10 F perhaps? Not for sure. Loved the photos. Can't wait for the leaves to change.

Hi anginwu, the holly tree is loaded with berries, I shall have to pick some branches and keep them in a bucket of water in the greenhouse before the Redwing and Fieldfare find them, they can strip the tree of berries in a couple of days!

I wish I could give you some...

Thank you for your lovely comments and vote, they mean a great deal to me, best wishes.

Gorgeous pictures MM! You are quite the photographer along with wonderful descriptions! Florida has weird sort of seasons also, actually we have summer and a few months of winter. Not much of a fall or spring. I wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you for sharing your garden with us! :)

This hub is awesome!! And yes the UK weather is absolutely nuts and a bit spooky if you ask me!!

I couldn't believe it at the end of last week when we had temperatures of 22. Now that's not nearly your own 29.9, but for the East of Scotland, at the end of September it's unheard of!! At the end of August I was thinking about looking out my gloves etc. Then the heat wave struck and I had to put them all back again, and rake out the summer stuff!

Yesterday, I've been raking all the autumn and winter stuff out again - my storage bags are feeling the strain! Thankfully I didn't put my winter duvet on last week! But we're defiantely back to normal. We've got high winds and rain and snow on the hills is forecast for the weekend! In a way I'm kind of relieved that it's normal autumn weather.

Your flowers and your photographs are so beautiful! You should try and sell some of your photographic work - they really are very good! So apart from people taking advantage of the nice weather the plants and flowers are doing the same. They're right! I reckon they've figured out that things are so crazy weather wise that spring and summer might be missing next year, so they've had an extra seed dispersil party just in case!

I really loved this hub and the photographs of your flowers is really cheering for this time of the year! Voted up + awesome.

You're garden makes me really envious and you're pohto's are a delight to see.

My sister lives in Bromley and has been complaining about your hot weather.

Here in Las Vegas my plants are also blooming now that our hot weather is over, hopefully.

What a beautiful garden, and a wonderful array of flowers. The weather is really confused here too. As dry as it has been I have lost lots of flowers and shrubs. It will be interesting to see how many come back next year. I will have to bookmark this hub just to have a garden to look at. Thanks so much ... now I'm jealous!

Wow, what a treat for the eyes. I must say you've quite a garden. Now, that would be the ideal garden for showcasing flowers of all season. Having said that, can I steal some of your holly for my Christmas wreath?--it's coming soon. Love your hub and rating it up.

Hi Happyboomernurse, the weather is so mixed up and crazy this year, I was amazed when I first realised all the spring plants had started flowering, it's certainly made the garden colourful!

Thank you for your wonderful comments and votes, best wishes.

That does sound like a lot of crazy, mixed up weather, but I love the way you put it all together in this photo hub. How wonderful to have all those different plants in bloom at the same time which wouldn't have happened if the previous weather hadn't been so erratic. Glad you documented your observations. Voted up, beautiful and interesting.

Hello timorous, the climate has certainly been out of whack here this year, a bonus in the garden this autumn but a little worrying all the same.

Many thanks for visiting, it's always good to see you, I hope all is well with you, take care.

Hello MM. On the one hand the late flowering is a bounty, but at the same time, a bit worrisome. The climate seems out of whack, at least in a few places.

Here in my little corner of Canada, it's pretty much normal fall weather, although a bit cooler, earlier than usual. Love the begonias, by the way. :)
