I learned about making sheep's wool during my stay in South Africa. An interesting process to oversee.

Gardening is a Less Stressful Activity

  • What makes your life true and wonderful?

  • Do you take pride in what you do around your garden?

Most retired people occupy their days with gardening.

Prepare their gardens for new plants, flowers vegetables or fruit plants.

I did not prepare any garden until I came to live in Croatia.

It was tough to work in the garden, for the first time.

When I was back in South Africa, I did not even try to work that way.

We had gardeners to clean up weeds, and to keep our yard clean and tidy including the house chores.

A new life that made me get active and got me into another way of life. I managed to cope with the many changes.

The preparation of my flower garden had to be improved and made into an attractive spot.

My first time was the toughest and once I got stuck with gardening, I knew to keep everything up to date.

Nobody would do it for me. I had to keep the around my home and yard clean on my own.

I started with planting flowers, and had experimented with many kinds to watch each grow. When I got the hang of planting.

I started keeping my garden very neat and free of all weeds, which included many different seeds of colorful flowers.

  • What makes you happy and fulfilled around your home?

  • Do you enjoy gardening?

I try to do a little each day to stop the weeds from spoiling the garden.

I have a garden rooster made from stone and clay.

An attractive attention of many visitors who stop by on a daily basis.

I have tortoises on another side of my yard.

These tortoises are often found crossing the road and are most unfortunate.

As they get run over by passing vehicles before reaching the other side of the street.

I pick up the tortoises when I see it crossing the street to save it from a short life.

I often touch its head, and the moment I do I see the shyness right away.

I enjoy working in my garden and take pride in what I do.

My choices are great when it comes to planning, and so are my planting experiences for each season.

Since we mainly have the summer to plant flowers and different green plants, I take full advantage of my planting.

Flowers are my best choices. I have tried planting vegetables but don't have patience for much of that kind of gardening.

I have left that part of gardening to my better half.

Last season, I planted broccoli and was amazed of the good crop.

In summer my focus is on herbal plants, and on the appearance of my lovely garden.

The three kinds of basil I have grown freely in the summer grew into lovely green plants.

I don't have a problem with Rosemary as it grows all year round; mint is another herb that grows mainly in warm climate. Fresh coriander is another herb.

I appreciate for its aroma and great flavors.

I tried to plant fresh Coriander last season and was successful. the numerous green fresh leaves were used for salads and in cooking sauces.

I enjoy preparing my yard for the new season. It is a pleasure and having a beautiful garden does make my home look even more beautiful and alive.

  • Would you prefer to have a gardener to perform all garden work around your home?

The flowers and ideas give my home and garden a wonderful feature.

Cleaning around my home on the outside is indeed a great experience.

I do it with pride, enjoyment, and I get a good feeling from these moments.

Our pear tree bared juicy sweet pears and I simply enjoyed eating.

I look forward to more fruit and vegetables for the new season ahead, and our own experiences are always cherished.

  • Do you have time to prepare the garden for the new season?

I have time to prepare the garden it is not a very big plot and preparation is easy.

I know if I keep it that way there would be no hassles.

Another season for plenty fruit and vegetables, and lots to get into our experiments which are mostly right on and worth a try.

Tomatoes were big, red and juicy from the last season.

We plant vegetables on new ground each time.

I spend two hours in the garden on alternate days during the summer, and look at this as my active moment.

Apart from walking my time in the garden feels less stressful, and free minded. I am free from all thoughts while outdoors.

I prefer outdoors!

It is fresh and beautiful to notice what surrounds our home in nature, and of the people living close by that makes my day very interesting.

I am an observant person and notice what interests me the most.

Such as when the birds fly by in the day, the sheep close by, or goats, and in taking in the fresh air with ease.

Believe it or not! I saw a donkey a few months ago, that was another impressive moment for me. it has been a while since many people have seen donkeys and I had that opportunity.

Life is what you make of it!

The choices you make are all you need for a better you. A bad choice can give you a bad approach to life. In my case, I did not make a bad choice.

Acceptance made my change feel difficult, and I know what makes me happy. The way I chose to live.

If I moaned about everything in front of me, and did nothing about it.

I would have not had the chance to write, and get to know my friendly community on Hubpages.

I knew when to make a better choice, and did as I got in the position to cope with my changes. Acceptance is hard and I can easily fall into this life if I let myself be.

My life has new roles and I have new plans to go ahead with those new roles. I feel I have this broad kind of vision of my new plans.

Remember, that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. My light is almost there.

I can see some of that light shining through for me, and it will soon shine through as I have expected it to. The time has come to show improvement and to feel happiness.

Most individuals would run or change their minds over time, but I stayed for the love of my family and for my freedom.

  • Would it be a better idea to do the garden work on your own, and feel great enjoyment while doing it?

  • How many of you prefer cleaning your own gardens?

You can run but you can't hide. I did not run and I am not hiding so I am free to be.

My true emotions are direct and I stand up for myself my opinions matter more than the opinions of others.

I have my own strength and courageous mind to move on and be happy.

What is, can only be, what was, will never be, and what will be well that remains to be seen.

I know I can't turn back, but have only path to follow the one ahead.

I do know my present life is showing me success and I choose to live by it.

New experiences and new lives are special moments, which I can always talk about when I am much older. I plan to do just that when the time arrives. I want to share with my grandchildren about my life and more.

A time for everything and place for everyone.

I enjoy sharing my emotions, and I found writing to be my best way of expressing my thoughts.

Although it's not a talent of mine, I love to enjoy other people's gardens. Yours is lovely, and I like the turtles. I like helping them cross the road, too.

Oh, I love gardening, as there is just something about digging in God's good Earth that makes me feel closer to Him for some reason. Then to enjoy the beauty it brings, so rewarding. It is also great exercise as it can be a lot of hard work too. I love your photos here and a lovely hub about gardening.

      Up and more

      Have a wonderful weekend,

      Faith Reaper

DDE, your flowers and pear tree look beautiful. It sounds like you are doing a good job in your garden already with tomatoes, broccoli and herbs growing well. Yes, you need to plant vegetables in different beds each year, alternating, especially tomatoes to avoid pests and disease and to spell the soil. You commented on my companion planting hub, so I hope you can use the suggestions there. Good hub, voted up.

I'm not talented in the gardening area either, but I like to hear how others are having good luck with plants. Your probably living in an area right now very conducive to growing flowers and herbs.

It is a lovely thing to discover the pleasures of gardening. to learn the object lessons about life it offers, and to experience the beauty of creation when out among the plants and animals. Right now we have little green leaf tips popping out, forsythia is beginning to bloom, and daffodils are brightening up the brown winter landscape. I'm so looking forward to being outdoors again soon! Yesterday I even saw that a stand of peonies we moved last summer has survived the move and is putting up shoots already. I'll have to watch carefully because we could get another freeze and it would have to be covered. Now that I think of it, I had better check our other peonies! Thanks for sharing the photos of your garden with us. I wish I enjoyed gardening more! I love how my yard looks once I spend the time making everything nice, but I find cleaning it up, planting, digging, quite tedious. I should be out there soon cleaning it up and preparing my garden spot. Maybe I will get motivated. Nice hub. So peaceful. Your pictures are lovely. That's neat that you save the turtles and give them a good home!

I see that your garden is in bloom and we still have a lot of snow and the temperatures are still quite cold here. I can't wait for Spring to come and work in my garden!

Great pictures, Devika! My favorite ones are the one with the bee and the one with the tortoises. That's great to have such animals in your backyard! Isn't great to see the miracle of the plants coming alive at each Spring!

I wish you a great weekend and enjoy your garden :-)

Great hub Devika! Up all the way!

Devika; it seems you have developed a good philosophy on how to enjoy life, and to take up challenges you enjoy - both the writing and the gardening. Gardening is a healthy, natural past time, and there is always something new to look forward to in each season.

It is pleasing to read how you are obviously very content with the garden you now have. Long may that continue!

A useful article for the encouragement it may give to others to try to achieve the same level of satisfaction in their own little patch of green.
