A Cozy Home in the Winter for your Pet - Home Decorating for the Pet Owner
How do You Decorate Your Home If you Own a Cat or Dog?
We love our dogs - we love our cats - we love our birds and other pets too!
But we don't love the messes they make in the house!
I am a total pet lover - but I know that the downside of their sweet lives are hairs, smells and dander. Cats scratch, dogs chew - and both of them shed and emit stinky smells at times. I don't care much about home design, but I do like to have a clean house - especially one that does not smell like the zoo. How do you keep a clean house with animals?
This is especially hard to make happen in the winter. I have found some real aids to pet owning here, especially in relation to the cold months when they are kept inside.

The problem is: We love to have our Animals close By
The Reality is - That is Where Our Animals Belong!
I was raised to keep animals outside - even in the winter.
I soon learned, though that this is not the way to have healthy animals that are a part of the family. One of the hardest problem is dealing with shedding. There are certain breeds of dogs that are low-shedders - like poodles, also certain cats that shed less like the short-haired cats, but basically if you have mammals you have hair.
A few basics: if you have animals consider hard wood floor or Perego rather than carpeting. Have a place for your animal that is special to them like a pillow, and consider crate training when they are a puppy. Protect your furniture with protectors.
When you have a dog or a cat you have all the decorations you need!
Can't We Just Let them Go Outside More?
The Dangers of Keeping Animals Outside in the Winter
While it is certainly fine - and probably enjoyable for your animal to be outside when it is cold, you have to realize that they are domesticated and there are many dangers for pets when they stay outside too much.
Dogs and cats can get arthritic just like people - and the cold affects their bones and joints. Cats are especially poorly suited for the snow. Cats have been known to do anything to stay warm when they are outside - including crawl into car engines and get killed. Generally dogs and cats fare much worse than we think in the winter outside.
The place for pets is inside.
However, sometimes your dog will want to go outside. Be sure that you clean his paws and follow some of the hints from the video below.
