Yes, you are correct. Crotons are actually more colorful if kept in the sun verses the shade. We water ours in pots once a week in the winter (move them into the garage for the few freezes we have in the winter to protect them) and then during the heat of the summer, as often as once a day or every other day. Of course if it rains...we get a break.
They are such a bright spot of color in a garden or patio setting!
By the way, I used the type of garden soil when planting them in pots that self adjusts...holding on to moisture when needed. I believe that it was a miracle grow product. Also had nutrients in it for several months of feeding.
