   I'm looking for suggestions on is the best way to stop mold on the walls in the shower
   
   Looking for any tips - are there better wall paints to use?  The wall above the shower is drywall that has been painted.  Have tried Kilz - thought for sure that would stop it but it's coming back in the same places

   I'm not an expert, but I think that getting moisture to dry quickly is the best way to avoid mold.  Use a fan or a dehumidifier in the bathroom to get the water to dry quickly.

   Yes, keeping the moisture down is the goal. Our shower walls are smooth so I keep a little squeegee in my bathroom to try and remove as much water as possible after a shower. I do a light bleaching (diluted) once a week to keep any mold from starting. And I always leave either ends of the shower curtain open to make sure there's a little circulation in there during the day.

   Do you have a extractor fan fitted in your bathroom? If not it would be a good idea
   
   to fit one.  When fitted the fan will come on when you turn the light on in the
   
   bathroom. The fan will take out most of the moisture, while bathing, showering etc.
   
   Seek advice from your local electrical store on fan power, purchase and fitting
   
   costs to suit your need.

   It may have gotten into the paint, or is in the drywall - maybe from the back side. It if is above the shower, there could be a pipe running behind there that is leaking.  If you do not have a leak, you might try a bleach product like X14 or your own mixture. 
   
   Bleach kills mold pretty effectively.  I know it is expensive, but we put a window  in the bathroom where there wasn't one--and it helped tremendously to have it open just maybe 1/4 inch to help dry out the moisture, and always use the fan while showering.

   Thanks to all who have answered so far.  Yes, there is a ventilation fan that runs.  I have a feeling, like +duffsmom pointed out, that it might be in the drywall (there are no pipes in that wall)  Kilz typically is suppose to stop it on drywall, but not this time.  I'll try the bleach idea and maybe put Kilz down again.

   I keep a spray bottle in the bathroom. It is a bleach solution. I simply spray it on every now and then and then leave. (The smell is potent!)

   You need to remove the drywall in that area, sounds like mold has gotten into your drywall. When putting it back use densglass or densheild something that can take a little moisture and won't mold.

    i can almost guarantee you that it will always come back. the mold is most likely in the drywall itself. i renovated homes for a living and kitchens and baths are what i do most. i've seen people spend money on all kinds of mold removers, paints etc and almost every time the mold returns after a while. get rid of the drywall and replace it will new material. the mold could even be in the insulation behind the drywall if there is any so painting over old drywall is pointless.there are lots of ways to make the mold seem to be gone but it's mold and if it isn't really gone, it's very bad for your health in the long run and worth spending money on getting rid of.
