I grew up in a tiny town where everyone knew everyone. I felt safe all day, every day. We did not lock our doors. We amused ourselves with the wonders of nature. TV was not the focal point of our attention.
We knew our neighbors, their problems, and their celebratory times. We cared about each other.
The disadvantage to that 'country' life was when the need to shop arose we had to travel as far away as 75 miles to find what we needed in the way of clothing.
Cultural events were read about and not experienced unless one had a very wealthy family.
I feel blessed that I had the country life as a foundation for my life...I feel so close to nature and love to hear the crickets rather than the sound of motor vehicles passing.
