What a great question. I do donate to Salvation Army, but there are two small non-profit organizations (not national names or brands) ....one help women and women with children with housing and employment....the women are homeless for various reasons....isssues from forecloser to divorce and need a place to live. They are allow 1 to 3 months and while there they are helped with everything from how to dress for an interview, how to conduct yourself in an interview to what to say. They very often need the proper clothing, clothing for their children and school supplies, etc. This is a small organization with a very small budget that is doing so much good. The other organization is a ministry (local) that serve both men and women with children....they also keep families together instead of separating them as they help them find housing and jobs...they need all the things I listed above and also ask for donating in household goods i.e towels, dishes, some furniture to help give the family a way to get started or re-started.
I love these two organizations and have volunteered from time to time, especially helping with fundraising.
