Unless considering wind power, or solar, only other sources of power can affect the environment. Hydroelectric power diverts water to the generators, and the storage of water deletes shoreline property. Coal and oil can pollute air...Gas is too expensive. Leaving one. Nuclear. I don't fear nuclear....I fear the "nut" that get's loose around it. The "well what if" members of our society abhor nuclear...and it's waste. Air power kills birds. Solar power is diminished by air particles settling on the grid.
I personally live around nuclear. Our harbor is host to anywhere around 30 nuclear reactors at any one time in the form of submarines or ships. Not to mention a solidly fixed reactor about 30 miles away. The only incident recalled is where some "nut" at the solidly fixed reactor poured a caustic substance on control rods to cause problems.
Alternatives to these types of power is living in the dark, doing without conveniences....It takes power to produce usable house power. Without it, we revert to the dark ages....and I for one....don't want to go back there.
Cheapest power? Hydroelectric. Efficient? Nuclear.....Cost effective? Solar.
