What essential items/furniture should one have in a small entrance hallway?

   What essential items/furniture should one have in a small entrance hallway?
   
   e.g. are there any items which can double as something else, any space saving tips.  Additionally, any thoughts as to how to make it feel larger than it actually is will be welcome.

   I would suggest a Entry Bench, made of wrought iron which can hold coats and shoes. A metal piece will allow you to look right past that piece with its open layout.
   You might find one that has low bins to store other items.
   
   The wooden pieces might block your view, being that they are mostly made out of solid wood which will make that area look crowded.
   
   Once you decide if you will need that piece to hold keys, phone or a lamp then that will help you determine which piece is best for your space..

   I've always had a coat tree for guests or family to easily hang up coats and hats.  It's great in the spring and winter when everything is wet and needs to dry out before going into a closet.  It also works great to hang up umbrella's.  I have a small wooden bench for items to go home with my grandson at the end of the day like art projects and extra clothes.  He sits on it to change his shoes too.

   A table and a coat rack. Maybe possibly a small chair to remove boots/shoes.

   We have a shoe bench. It's a nice wooden bench with a cushion that doubles as a place to store your shoes. The cushion part opens up and makes for a nice compact entry way storage bin. Easy for sitting down to take off said shoes and then they pop right into the base of the bench.

      To this I would add a small table to lay stuff down that you intend to take with you on your next trip out.

   A coat rack or hooks to hang coats up on. A small bench with padding to make it comfortable when sitting down. A small mirror would be nice, too. I would go for the spartan look which would make the space look larger and it wouldn't have a cluttered look.
