Have you ever used dark interior colors? If so, how do you like the results?
I used to own a painting company. One time we painted a client's living room a deep rich chocolate brown with white trim. It looked amazing.
TheApril,
I can't believe you said that. We just painted our living room chocolate brown with a white ceiling and a white window treatment. We absolutely love it. It's like a theater in there at night. Thanks so much=)
Lisa
Wow, chocolate brown with white sounds great for a living room color. May do that next time I need to paint. Thanks for the idea.
I couldn't believe how great it looked, either.
I love using rich, dark interior paint. And I think it works better on small rooms than larger ones, giving the room character, warmth, and energy. For larger rooms, I like the dark accent wall that's coming back in style.
Amber,
I agree. Darker colors do add warmth and energy. I just love them. We're painting another room in a darker color right now. I can't wait. The first try turned out so well I want to paint all of the rooms in the house.
Thank you,
Lisa
Yes! I love using darker colors inside. I first developed a taste for it when I was a child. My mother painted the interior of our 1920's farmhouse a dark redwood color (very rich burgundy) with cream trim. It was beautiful and cozy, and always looked so clean.
Currently, I have a dark, copper accent wall in the main living area. (open floor plan, the wall goes through two large rooms. I love it! The lighter walls are adobe colored. The rooms have very little character of their own, so having the dark accent wall creates the illusion of architectural interest.
Our bedroom is completely painted the same copper color, with a dark, metallic bronze sponged over it. The carpet and curtains are deep burgundy. It is dark...but it is very relaxing. And the lighting in there is always warm and flattering for any skin type.
My mother now owns another very old home. All the original woodwork is still in great condition but the previous owner ruined the walls with bad wallpaper. My mom pulled the paper, replastered, and painted the rooms downstairs white with black accent walls and trim. It looks so amazing and elegant!
You might think black would overpower the rooms, but instead it makes them seem more open and much taller. Dark colors are great for interiors!
Yes, we painted an extra bedroom a dark midnight blue (not navy blue), it got some attention. It was great, as it blened in well with all the dark blues in an extra large wall painting of Van Gogh's "Cafe" (Cafe de Nuit)...and the yellows really stood out. It looked as if it was painted directly on the wall, since it was designed to be hung without a frame. The only thing, it did make the room darker.
I love dark furniture and decor, but I need my walls luminous.
To be honest I have enjoyed darker wall paints in someone else's place, but I could no do it in my house. I have a "thing" with light, I like bright rooms. (:

You are wealthy--interior decorator or do it by yourself?I'd have to have a decorator--I have no talent putting things together.

If God is like a light switch in a dark room, why is it so hard to show it to a non-believer?This appeared in a forum post recently:"They are led to stand before the doorstep of a dark room ~ and encouraged to discover if there is any light-switch ('God') inside it. The only way to find out ~...
