For some reason, I feel more compelled to do a deep cleaning and purge in the Fall right before the winter months - probably due to the anticipation of spending so much time indoors which kind of bums me out. Cleaning and ridding clutter seems to make the approaching winter more bearable. Do you do fall cleaning rituals and why?

I could see how a new coat of paint could perk up the house for the winter. Organization and decluttering I think makes the home more comfortable for sure.
I live downstate from you a few hours, our winters aren't as brutal as yours usually but I know what you mean about extended time indoors! germs are another consideration too.
I feel the same, I am always on the go in the warm months, but in the winter a change of furniture and a deep clean make the cabin fever more tolerable.
Totally agree, most of what people do for "spring" cleaning I do on warmer fall days - opening all the windows, airing out mattresses etc.
getting out the holiday decor can definitely be a good time to dig in and do some organizing. I find I never get the motivation, I have to just do it :)
To get myself to clean I cannot read another chapter in a book until I pick up and put away a certain amount of items. Usually I set it at 100, could be clothes dishes, scraps of paper that didn't make it to garbage bag and so on
