I've lived in homes with one or the other over the years and I see the benefits and drawbacks of both.
Tanked water heaters are nice in the sense that they provide hot water immediately but that comes at a cost. Constantly heating x gallons of water is expensive and wasteful. They also run out of hot water eventually leaving you with cold showers until the tank refills and reheats.
Tankless heaters are cheaper on utility bills but usually more expensive upfront. It also takes a little bit for hot water to come out when you turn on the faucet, leading to you wasting water.
Ultimately it depends on what your individual circumstances. If you use have a large family tankless would be nice because they don't run out of hot water. On the other side of things if it's just you, and you don't mind paying a higher electric bill (unless you have your own solar or wind generators), go for tanked.
