Why do some azaleas bloom twice or more in a season and others don't?

I have noticed this and I have even had a couple to do this but not in the last three or four years although I still notice ones near me that do. Why is this?

Thank you Catherine; I appreciate all that knowledge. I knew there had to be a reason!

I have Azaleas everywhere! All colors. Now I am really into Rose of Sharon's too and the many colors.

It must have something to do with where they are placed too, don't you think Rachel? I only have a couple that do that and one of them is a beautiful burgundy red that didn't hit so well this year. I probably should try to move it.
