Sorry ... I didn't see this! You insert the tip of the flat file, not the handle. The handle connects to the widest part of the tapered file.

i wouldn't use a file. your better off using a flat scewdriver or if you have one an easy-out.
Id try to pinch it shut with a channel lock and use the channel lock to twist it out
