Berghoff Ceramic Cookware

Updated on June 7, 2014

Cooking healthy fat free food is easy

I have tried all kinds of non-stick cookware and within a year all start to shed coating...except for ceramic cookware.

Ceramics and glass have a lot in common, and I think you will agree that the hardened surface of glass stays smooth for very long (unless you intentionally scratch it). The best part is that pots and pans with ceramic coating means you are not subjected to hazardous fumes such as those from some types of non-stick coatings. The manufacturing process is also much more eco-friendly.

Cook-ware pans of this type have come to be called green pans, and green cookware. Belgian brand Berghoff make some of the best ceramic pans and skillets out there.

Berghoff Montane 10 inch ceramic frying pan

BergHOFF Earthchef Montane Frying Pan, 10.25"
BergHOFF Earthchef Montane Frying Pan, 10.25"

This is one of my favorite Berghoff pans. I find the 7 inch skillets too small and a 12 inch model is just not right for our small household.

As with all Berghoff ceramic products, the Montane is eco-friendly and offers a healthier coating which withstands high heat better than other non-stick coatings.

Berghoff Virgo Deep 10 inch Ceramic Skillet

This is one of those pans that I can find a multitude of uses for. Skillet to fry, but also as a pure cooker since it has pur siphon and filter holes in the lid base. As it is oven safe, it also makes a pretty good roast pan.

The video gives a good idea of the lid design which I think is smart and looks good. A deep skillet like this becomes pretty heavy when filled and the lid handles are smartly designed to make 2 handed use easy and safe. I like it. This is a full size Berghoff ceramic skillet at a very affordable price!

In a nutshell: ceramics have a long track record of being used without any health hazards and using the material cuts energy usage.

These nonmetallic solids have been around for ages and the simplest type is pottery which can be made from clay. Heating and cooling hardens the material.

The earliest fragments of ceramic artifacts that have been found are 27,000 years old. That is a long time!

Most of the tableware that we already have in our homes is some form of ceramics. Did you know that glass is also such a material?

Ceramic can be delicate or extremely durable depending on type. Replacement teeth and teeth bridges are often made with these very hard and durable materials.

The cast iron pans are just too heavy to use on ceramic cook tops. You are rinsikg a breakage if you drop one and that would be sad! As for the other kinds, I have used them all on my ceramic cook top and not had any problems. I would just be careful and not shake your pans back and forth on the surface of your cook top if you are concerned. The conditioner/cleaner only really needs to be used when the surface is dirty. Clean up all spills ASAP so they don't get cooked on and become really hard to remove. Our stove came with a scraper that has blade in it to remove tough spills.Overall, these cook tops are a blessing. They give you a little extra counter space and are really easy to clean and care for. Once you get used to it you will like it a lot.
