Best Down Bed Comforter 2014

Updated on September 8, 2014

I like to think of myself as a frugal person, but when it comes to my bed I have to have the best. As a Dad with four kids I need a good night sleep and a good down bed comforter goes a long way in ensuring that happens.

That being said, I've been through quite a few down comforters in the past. This post is a look at a few of the top rated down comforters for the money.

A Good Under $100 Down Comforter With Duvet Insert

Natural Comfort Goose Down Alternative Comforter

Here's a comforter I really like from Natural Comforter. It has a 200 thread count with 100% cotton ticking. The insert is allergy free and is made with 82 ounces of alternative fill. The edge is piped for a classier look with 7 inch stitching box design and 4 loops on the corners. Care is quite easy since you can put it in your washing machine and dryer.

This duvet insert comforter has a heavy loft that keeps me very warm at night. It comes in different sizes to work for the bed you have; however, I currently use the King Size. It's perfect for cold nights where I live.

If you want something bulky, then you might want to go with something else. Despite being very warm it simply isn't as fluffy as other options I've used. That being said for me this isn't a big issue since the blanket works so well in regards to heat. Another feature that I personally like is that the blanket is not super heavy or uncomfortable to sleep under because of the weight.

A Cotton Down Comforter that's Worth a Look

Royal Hotel Egyptian Cotton Down Comforter

This is a king size goose down alternative comforter that gives medium warmth when needed. It has 50 ounces of the goose alternative and is made with a 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton cover that is also hypo-allergenic and is machine washable.

It has a box stitching design that will keep the fill where it needs to be instead of sliding around inside the blanket. Though it is light, the fill inside does actually work well for warmth. The Egyptian cotton is something users really love because it is very soft against the skin. This is also a comforter that is not huge and fluffy.

Out of the box this comforter won't seem as fluffy as it does in the picture. Simply work it a bit and it should puff right up.

Best Real Goose Down Comforter

Pinzon Pyrenees Down Comforter

Different than the others we have reviewed here, this comforter is made with real goose down instead of alternative fill. It's built with a leak proof cover, that limits the amount of feathers that work their way out over time.

The cover is 100% cotton and has a 400 thread count weave with a nice striped pattern. The patented PermaBaffle gives an end to end 14 inch baffle box construction that will keep the filling where it needs to be.Something that this comforter has, compared to others on the market is 600 fill power which means the clusters of feathers are stronger and larger so you get longer use out of this blanket than others who use less fill power.

Overall it's a great product for the price and one of the most comfortable I've used. While the manufacturer says advertises a leak proof design, feathers should be expected to leak out over time in this comforter as well as any other real goose down comforter. Buying a duvet cover is a good idea for extensive use and will limit most leakage issues you come across.

This goose down comforter is also highly rated by buyers everywhere. It comes with 750 fill power with 100% real goose down. A 1200 thread count Egyptian cotton cover will be soft against your skin and is hypo-allergenic if you have an issue with goose feathers.

It comes to you in a zippered package so it stays safe during shipping. This is crafted from Long Staple Giza Cotton that is grown in the Nile River Valley. Cotton that is grown there tends to be much softer than from other places.I find the Siberian goose Down Comforters to be very good for warmth and a good investment as well.

This comforter is for a King size bed but many users have stated that it doesn't quite seem to cover a King size bed well. If you want a down comforter that will cover your bed with quite a bit of hang, then this might not be the one for you. However, if you own a smaller sized bed, you could buy one size bigger comforter that will ensure full coverage and then some.

As one of the most affordable options in down comforters, this one is a good choice for many. Someone who has never experienced a down comforter might benefit from trying this first to see how they like it. Many are satisfied with how warm this comforter is and need no expensive blankets to keep them happy.

As with most comforters, this one is made with a box stitching design that avoids any shifting inside of the fill contents. The price reflected here is for a Queen sized bed. However, there have been some reports that the Queen size is kind of small for an actual Queen bed. It is made with very soft, microfiber down alternative shell and filling that is breathable but also warm.

It is machine washable for convenience as well but buyers should know that it needs to be air dried. The baffle box design has double stitching for more strength. As an alternative to a real down comforter, this blanket is even more hypo-allergenic because it is made with other material than allergy causing feathers. For design, it has a smooth piped edging that should last you for many years to come.
