Best Home Surveillance System 2016

Which is the Best Home Surveillance System?

Many homeowners have asked, what is the best home surveillance system for sale today?

This can be a difficult question to answer when you look at the fact that there are so many different brands on the market and they all come with different features. In fact it can get down right confusing trying to pick out the right system.

Of course many people also ask, why do I need a home surveillance system?

Well the truth is that statistics show that on average, a home is broken into every 14 seconds which leads to $4.5 billion worth of property being stolen every year.

This is a frightening fact but it is just a reality of life that we have to deal with today.

Now days there are a lot of people who are looking to home security camera systems to help protect their homes and give them a little peace of mind.

Best Security Camera System Uses

Of course you can use a home video surveillance system for more than just protecting you home.

Use Your Security Camera System for:

  • Using one of the many different video surveillance systems that are on the market today is a great way to protect your business from vandalism, theft and other crimes.
  • You can also use it to watch over your children while they are playing in the yard or swimming in the pool.
  • You can make sure your teen age children are not sneaking out at night.

No matter what you might need a security camera system for you can rest assured that your business, home or family are going to be safe and sound.

In fact, just having security cameras around your home or business is enough to keep most burglars from trying to break in, this is evident by the fact that there are many different "fake" security cameras for sale today.

Do You Need an Outdoor Surveillance Camera?

Best Home Surveillance System Features

If you decide that having a surveillance system to help protect your home or business is a good idea then you need to know what the best home surveillance system is going to be for you.

There are many different features that these systems come with and you need to decide how exactly you are going to use your security system so that you can choose the best system for you.

What Features Should My Home Surveillance System Have?

However, there are some common features that you should always look for.

  • High Definition Resolution
  • Remote Viewing
  • Night vision
  • Motion Activation
  • Storage device

Any surveillance system you are considering purchasing should have high definition resolution, this is going to make sure all video captured is of the highest quality. HD technology is not so expensive that it should make much if any difference in price so this shouldn't be a concern.

These days with cell phones, tablets and all of our other wireless devices it is standard for any decent system to include remote viewing. Although you may not considered it a "must have" feature, it is very handy to have and again any good system should have this capability.

Night vision really is a must, what good is your security surveillance system going to be if it can't capture what goes on at night.

Motion activation is another feature that might not be a must have for you but is very convenient and is a feature that all of the best home surveillance systems have.

Lastly, any good system should have a storage device or two, if it doesn't, don't even think of purchasing it. You need to be able to store and secure all the security footage that your cameras capture!

For this model I have to say that it is disappointingly low, only 65 feet. Other models listed on this page have a range of 120 feet.

However, if you don't need your night vision to reach that far don't hesitate to take a closer look at this model, everything else about the Amcrest 960H is fantastic which is why it is a best seller.

Elec 8 Channel CCTV 960H HDMI Home Camera System

Elec 8 Channel CCTV 960H Home Surveillance System

Elec Home Surveillance System

The Elec 8 channel 960H home camera system is another of the best home surveillance systems that you will find today, at least for the price.

I say for the price because this model only has 700 TV line resolution, other models listed here are at least 900 TVL.

Is this a deal breaker? No, it may make a slight difference in resolution but for the difference price it is a small concern. However if you need the highest resolution available for any reason then definitely look at something like the DEFEWAY model which has 1200 TVL.

Like most of the surveillance systems we are discussing here, this model comes with 4 weatherproof, high resolution, indoor/outdoor infrared cameras. Like the Amcrest model this system does not have the longest night vision capabilities, 65-85 feet in this case.

The DVR for this model is like the others, 8 channel and the hard drive capacity is 1TB.

This DEFEWAY 720P surveillance camera system is one of the cheaper security camera systems listed here today, however this doesn't mean it lacks in features or quality.

This home security system comes with 4 outdoor 720P, 1200 TVL outdoor cameras that have an impressive 100 foot infrared capability for outstanding night vision recording.

The IP66 security cameras are wrapped in a weatherproof aluminum housing so you know they can stand up to the elements.

With the 8 channel DVR you can connect up to 8 AHD or analog cameras, making this model expandable from the 4 cameras it comes with.

The 1TB hard drive, expandable up to 3GB, gives you plenty of space to record and you can use the 2 USB ports for backup storage.

Remote viewing for this model is compatible with iPhone, iPad, android phones and tablets so no matter where you are you can always keep an eye on things.

The motion detection feature will allow for you to only record when motion is detected allowing for you to record continuously for longer periods of time.

In My Opinion

Which is the Best Home Surveillance System?

All the models shown here are on my list of best home surveillance systems and if I were to choose one I would have to make my decision based on what my specific needs were.

You should do the same!

I do however have some personal experience with the Defeway 720P security camera system. My cousin operates a business on the property of his home and needed a good surveillance system to be able to keep an eye on things and record anything that might happen.

He chose the Defeway model listed here and I got to help set it up and see it in action.

Everything was very easy to work with and the set up went very smooth. We hooked everything up to a 32 inch LCD TV and were very impressed with the 4 screen layout that showed us every inch of his property.

6 months later and everything is still working great and he has no complaints.
