Best Kitchen Knives

Updated on December 4, 2014

What are the Best Kitchen Knives?

Any good chef knows how important it is to work with a high quality set of knives in the kitchen. A professional knife set makes your job easier and will therefore make you a much better cook. A high quality knife set will be properly weighted so it feels good in your hands and the knives should hold their edge over time.

A sharp knife is also actually a safer knife as well because it is less likely to slip over meat or vegetables and cut your hand.

Many people thing that a good quality knife set will cost a pretty penny. But that isn't true. A good set of cutlery doesn't have to be expensive.

How to Choose a Knife Set

When buying a knife, there are a few things you need to consider before buying.

  1. Comfort - It is important that the knife feels good in your hand.
  2. Balance - A good knife will not have more weight on one end or the other.
  3. Brand - Is the knife made by a company your trust?
  4. Customer Reviews - I like to read reviews over at Amazon or on other search engines about any specific product before I buy.

I have Cutco, which are only sold thru a Cutco representative. But you have some lower cost alternatives here that are worth a try.

I like the storage block for the knives. I don't own a lot of knives except a cleaver and some generic serrated knives. I'll have to check these out, thanks!

I have some great Ginsu knives I've had for years. They were a wedding gift, and I use them almost daily.

I own several partial sets - the small knives tend to join forces with biros and make a bid for freedom.

I've never really had a good set of chef's knives and while I would never quality as a "chef" by any stretch of the imagination, I do make dinners, have to trim meat, and still chop my veggies by hand. Might be time for a great set of knives for my kitchen. Great selection!
