Best Laundry Detergent for Sensitive Skin

Updated on January 23, 2013

What is the Best Laundry Detergent for Sensitive Skin?

I figured out a long time ago that if I use just any detergent that is chocked full of dyes and scents to wash my clothes in then I break out in what appears to be a rash. It isn't bad enough to go to the doctor but is very annoying and gets ten times worse in the summer months.

I have tried quite a few different kinds of laundry detergents that claim to be for sensitive skin with buzz words like "Allergist recommended" and "dermatologist tested" and other such hype but I have yet to find the right one.

We all know there are plenty of doctors or in this case allergists and dermatologists that will say whatever they are paid to say, remember the doctors and scientists that used to say cigarettes weren't addictive or cancer causing? So I take those types of recommendations with a grain of salt.

This is why I decided to make this lens, I figure if everyone with this issue shares what they have found maybe we can help each other stop being annoyed by allergic reactions to out laundry soap. Please be sure to share what you know and don't forget the polls. As I collect information I will compile it for us.

Have you ever tried using one of the Baby Laundry Soaps?

I noticed after I started doing my research that there are tons of baby laundry detergents out there that claim to be safe enough to not even harm a baby's sensitive skin and it got me thinking. Maybe this would be another way to go although it may all be just hype. I say this because I noticed they actually have baby drinking water, in my local store it comes in both 16 oz water bottles and gallon jugs as well. Reading the labels it seemed like BS to me but I don't have any kids so I can't say for sure.

All natural homemade laundry detergent options

I have been noticing tons of recipes for making your own homemade version of laundry soap but the ingredients I always see listed seem harsh as can be to me. I have yet to find one for making a version for sensitive skin until I came across this lens about Soap nuts. It seems mother nature has provided for a way for us to wash our clothes clean without using chemicals and poisons to do it. Go figure! According to my research it seems that they are fine for people with skin allergy issues but I haven't tried them out yet.
