Best Modern Contemporary Ceiling Fans

Updated on August 2, 2013

Are you looking for a modern ceiling fan?

It's summer, and that means looking for inexpensive ways to cool down your house. I never thought I would be the type of person who wanted to install ceiling fans everywhere, but it turns out that's just because all of the ceiling fans I'd seen in the past were, well, pretty unattractive. Today there are some really beautiful ceiling fans with sleek lines and industrial features that would look amazing in a modern room.

Buy this modern ceiling fan from Capital Lighting today!

Fanimation FP7900 Torto 52 Inch Ceiling Fan With Light Kit

Fanimation FP7900MG Torto 2 Light 3 Blade Ceiling Fan in Metro Gray

This beautiful modern fan is a statement piece in addition to being functional. At $700, it's not cheap, but this kind of unique styling is going to come with a price. All the reviews I read of it said the same thing: beautiful, functional, stylish. I love the way it would look in an industrial-type room.

Of course, it's no good if it doesn't work. This Fanimation ceiling fan circulates the air well and cools down the room. Because of its unique design, it pushes air down at an angle instead of straight down.

It's 52 inches, has 3 blades, and one frosted glass light (with two bulbs). There are 6 fan speeds -- 3 forward and 3 reverse. According to reviews, it is also very quiet, which is a huge plus.

Hunter Fans 21585 52" Sonic Contemporary Energy Star Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan w/ Light & Remote

This Hunter ceiling fan gets some negative reviews because of difficult installation, but it is whisper quiet and beautiful once installed. There's no wobbling at all, and its 4 blades do a fantastic job of moving air around and cooling down a room. In addition, it's a great bargain for a modern ceiling fan; other comparable models are more than twice the cost of this one!

Casablanca C43GXXL Bullet 54 Inch Ceiling Fan

Casablanca C43G45L Bullet 1 Light 4 Blade Ceiling Fan in Brushed Nickel

I love the super modern look of this brushed nickel Casablanca ceiling fan! With four blades and a halogen light, its super sleek look would be perfect in any modern living room, dining room, or even bedroom. It really does look like a sleek, modern "bullet."

At 54 inches, it's slightly wider than most of the others on this list. It lists at about $750 but at the time of this article is discounted to less than $500, so it's a bargain!

Minka Aire F601 Acero 52 Inch Ceiling Fan With Light Kit

Minka Aire F601-BS-MG Acero 3 Blade Ceiling Fan in Brushed Steel

This Minka Aire ceiling fan is another really distinctive and contemporary modern look, for those of you who want to go with a more industrial theme. It reminds me of airport hangers, and would look equally stylish in a modern home and a craftsman-style.

With only three blades, it doesn't seem like it would be particularly efficient, but it is. And it's quiet as well! Reviews on this ceiling fan are great; people love how quiet and modern it is, as well as how effective it is at cooling the air down. At less than $400, it's a good bargain for a modern ceiling fan as well.

Modern Fan Company SLA-52-IN Stella 52 Inch Ceiling Fan With Light Kit

Modern Fan Company SLA-MP-52-BK-IN-002 Stella 1 Light 4 Blade Ceiling Fan in Maple-Dark Bronze

I can't tell you how much I love the design of this Modern Fan Company ceiling fan! It's so distinctive and modern. It is definitely meant to be a statement piece. You could use it in a modern, sleek room that isn't overly chrome/metal-based, or it would look fantastic in a mid-century or bungalow house. Note that the blades are real wood as opposed to veneer.

If you are going for a statement, this is it. It has four blades, and is priced under $500.

Kichler 300134 Botella 52 Inch Ceiling Fan With Light Kit

Kichler 300134SBK Botella 1 Light 5 Blade Ceiling Fan in Satin Black

Though you can buy this Kichler ceiling fan in black or white, I think the black is somehow more "modern looking." This beautiful fan has five blades and would look perfect in any modern kitchen or large bedroom. It has a dimmer and 6 speeds (forward and reverse) for maximum efficiency.

58' Artemis Maple Finish Ceiling Fan

With universally great reviews and as one of the most popular modern ceiling fans out there, this Minka Aire maple ceiling fan is perfect for the modern sleek home. With only three blades, its unique styling creates great air flow. An added bonus? It's apparently relatively easy to install.

It's over $500, so it's not inexpensive, but there is no way people won't comment on it when they see it for the first time. It's a beautiful and functional ceiling fan, and quiet too.

And definitely click through to see it -- this photo doesn't do it justice!

Do you have a modern ceiling fan that you love?

We don't have a ceiling fan now. But for my previous home, we had one and I prefer that to a standing fan. For one, you don't need the space for it which is a big plus if you live in a small apartment.
