Barska Biometric Safe

Updated on October 14, 2013

Look How The Barska Biometric Safe Provides Peace Of Mind

Recently,I have found the need to purchase a fingerprint safe or biometric safe. While looking around I stopped to give the Barska Biometric Safe consideration. There is a very specific reason that I placed such a high importance on looking at these safes! Read on to find out why.

The Number One Reason I Need A Fingerprint Safe

During the Holidays at my parent's house last year, I started thinking about when I was a boy living with them. I remembered that my father has always kept a hand gun or two in the house for protection. I never really thought much of it because Dad taught me to shoot and about gun safety at an early age. So I was pretty used to having them around the house.

Today, I have a 5 year old daughter who likes to stay some weekends with Grandma and Grandpa, I am now a little more nervous about the guns in their house. The typical worried parent type of stuff. Obviously, she is too young to go over handling a gun with her but she's not too young to be inquisitive if she ever came across one of my Father's shiny guns. Although, he does do a great job at keeping them put away and out of reach.

Rather than telling my Dad how to run his household or stop letting their granddaughter come over, neither of which would be a good idea by the way, I decided that I was going to get them a home safe. Not just any home safe, but one they could securely store their hand guns and also one that would give them quick and easy access should they ever actually need it. These benefits of a gunsafe pointed me toward a fingerprint safe.

I had an idea of the one that I wanted to get them but being the research dork that I am I had to find out all of the details before I just went out and grabbed one for the sake of saying that I got them a fingerprint safe. After all, I was really buying it for my daughter, not them. And that led me to the Barska Biometric Safe.

I hope this research helps you narrow your decision a little more quickly.

Points To Consider In A Fingerprint Safe or Sometimes Called Biometric Safe

I knew that there are safes that run in the thousands of dollars and that was out of my budget. But I also didn't want a cheap one that would open completely effortlessly. So here are the high points that you should look for when getting a fingerprint safe.

  • Reliable ease of entry for the owner
  • Compact design for placement
  • Spacious for the intended contents
  • Price-point compared to the quality of the safe.
  • Easy access when you need it

Reliability of Ownership

This Barska biometric safe opens with the touch of your finger leaving the complicated combination locks and bulky keys behind. When you want to make sure that your valuables are safe from theft this fingerprint safe will keep burglars out no matter how hard they try.

Biometric safes are among the state of the art in locking technology. The Barska uses a unique fingerprint pad that recognizes the fingerprints that you select when opening the safe. With this mechanism, you'll never be thumbing through your key ring again when trying to open it. You have complete control of who is authorized to open the fingerprint safe by programming up to 30 unique prints.

Again there are no combinations to remember, and no keys to fumble with except for the backup keys that should be stored away from the safe. Entry is made simple in the dark with the light up finger portal taking approximately 3-5 seconds to open with the touch of a programmed finger.

Compact design for placement

Barska biometric safes are compact giving you the ability to store and mount it anywhere, a seldom used closet or to the floor. It weighs only 31 pounds and measuring 16.5 X 7.75 X 14.5 inches on the exterior.

Securing the biometric safe is a snap using the included hardware provided. The mounting job should be complete in about 15 minutes.

Spacious for the intended contents

Roomy enough on the inside to store medicines, cash, jewelry and even firearms, this fingerprint safe measures 16.25 X 7 X 14.25 inches on the interior.

Most owners have reported that they typically store two full-size handguns, ammo, and several spare magazines in there and STILL have room for important documents and other valuables.

Price-point compared to the quality of the safe.

For a few more dollars than you would pay for an inferior safe, this one is extremely well built, well priced, and dependable. The safe is easy to program, fast and easy to open with a backup plan should you ever have trouble accessing the contents. If someone needed to open the safe without an authorized fingerprint the safe comes with two backup keys and is built to operate on four AA batteries.

The Barska fingerprint safe combines the ease of entry for the owner, ability of hiding your items from potential thieves, and a roomy lined interior great for safely storing handguns without damaging them.

How much should you expect to pay?

The list price on The Barska Biometric Safe is around the $400 mark, but the typical selling prices have been between $150 for a used safe and $180 for a new one. The most consistent pricing we found is on Amazon who consistently offers it at the $180 price.

Here Is What Others Say About The Barska Biometric Safe

This safe has received an average of 4 and a half stars out of five on Amazon from reviewers. Here are some of the most recent comments about the Barska safe.

"Well worth the money"

"As advertised"

"Bio Safe is good to go"

"Great for securing Handguns"

The one consistent complaint is that the safe makes a beeping sound when it is accessed. Some state that this removes the "stealth" capability when accessing a weapon. But on the other hand it also alerts when it is being accessed by unauthorized people or alerts an intruder so that you don't have to use your gun.

I haven't tried one but I think it's definitely a good idea, particularly in this case (to keep guns away from children). And here I thought fingerprint safes were only in movies! :-)
