Bring The Outdoors in With Flower Arrangements

Updated on June 5, 2014

Flower Arrangements for the Table

Bring The Outdoors in With Flower Arrangements. I look forward to summer every year because I know I will have a beautiful flower arrangements somewhere in my home. They have special meaning for me they make a house a home and add life to my rooms. Every since I can remember I always enjoyed a nice vase full in my room. My father was an avid gardener and every summer out home was filled with the bouquets he grew for my mother. There were always large bouquets on our dining room table.

Since that time I have carried on the tradition of having beautiful flowers on my table. Especially during the summer months when they are so abundant. The kind is not important to me since I enjoy all types and varieties of flowers. A simple flower vase filled with yellow daffodils is usually the first arrangement I have every spring. This is followed by yellow forsythia which is a flowering shrub that blossoms early in the spring here in Michigan.

After the daffodils and forsythias have dropped their blossoms, the fragrant lilac begin their predictable show. The one that I have are the old-fashioned type. They are very fragrant and a beautiful purple color. I always think of summer when the lilac are in bloom. The smell fills the air in my house and the outdoors are just as fragrant.

A Single Specimen

How Beautiful - May have one or many flowers.

Simple one speciment arrangements is perfect for and intimate meal or on a breakfast in bed tray. Flowers can set the mood and make any occasion special. Choose vases based on the size of your bouquet. Special inserts can be purchased that hold flower arrangements in place. It keeps it where they are place. It can be as simple as a florist sponge or a glass insert with a hole for each one.

When arranging large bouquets a simple method of placement is to balance out the flowers using symmetry. Similar flowers are place into the arrangement starting with the most abundant type in the center and then place other types in an organized fashion. Taller flowers should be placed near the back and smaller one can be used near the front and toward the middle.

Make sure to cut the stems of each flower on a 45 degree angle as this allows the flower to maintain hydration increasing the a longer lasting display. Some people believe placing bleach, aspirin or other ingredients into the water to prolong the life of the bouquet.

Cut the stems to creat visual drama

Create a triangular shape by cutting the stems - Creating Simple Drama

Cut your flower stems from short to tall, while arranging them in a triangular shape. For this type of arrangement a florist sponge works well. Cut the sponge to completely fill the inside portion of your vase. You will be able to easily place the flower in a triangular formation.

Tea cups, glasses and other containers that can hold water such as empty soda bottles which can be cut to hold your flowers. By simply wrapping the soda bottle with decorative paper of foil you can create a vase with little effort. I like to reuse and recycle items that might be otherwise discarded. Not only are you prevent them from ending up in a land-fill but you can add beauty to you home by reusing them

A chic arrangement can be made using a tea cup with a florist ball shaped sponge and placing your flowers into a half sphere shape. It is a very impressive design when completed.
