Benefits & Drawbacks of Different Lights

Incandescent lamps, compact and linear fluorescence lamps as well as LEDs provide different advantages and of course show also different disadvantages depending on practical purposes for their use.

Incandescent Light Bulbs

Incandescent lights are the most traditional bulbs. Since they are not expensive, the lights are still most commonly used in homes. These bulbs can be used with a dimmer to adjust the brightness depending on the time of day, the room, the occasion and the fixture or mood. Since incandescent lights are not very energy efficient, they are best used in fixtures that you don’t leave on all day. Besides they can be used as string lights hung outdoors, either as everyday accents or for special occasions. Incandescent bulbs are also great choice if you use chandelier, just because of their range of sizes, shapes and tints

Halogen Light

Much similar to incandescent lights, halogen bulbs have a tone that some feel mimics natural daylight. They are energy efficient, consuming electricity of almost same amount as incandescent bulbs do while giving off a much brighter, more intense light over a longer lifespan. However, halogens can overheat quickly and are at higher price than incandescent bulbs. When combined with warmer-colored shades or placed in pendant lights, they can work better. Halogens are ideal for outdoor fixtures.

Fluorescent Lighting Bulbs

Fluorescent lights produce a flat light with a blue tint, yet still some modern high-end bulbs give out a warmer tone that mimics daylight. They burn longer and brighter than the former two bulbs, but they can not be connected to a dimmer. For not mercury free, these bulbs must be disposed of carefully. Fluorescent bulbs can be a great choice for a large room that needs straightforward illumination.
