Cordless Handheld Drill

Updated on February 11, 2014

Handheld Cordless Drill

It was time to get a gift and I had no idea what to get. I had finally decided on a hand held drill because I heard a mention of such a tool and how it would be nice to have.

I wanted something inexpensive, don't we all ? So now to find the perfect gift should be easy ..... nope not when you are flooded with so much to choose from. It was easier at one time when you only had what was at the store you visited. When shopping on-line the choices are mind boggling. The more I looked the more I realized I knew nothing about this product and what to get so I had to put myself into super research mode. There are some things you will need to know to make buying the right drill an easy task.

The Battery

Just like choosing a laptop one of the first things I found that needed attention was choosing a battery. Cordless is great as long as it keeps on drilling without the hassle of needing a recharge every time you turn around. The Lithium-ion battery will hold a charge longer than any other so I had to have one with a Lithium-ion battery. Batteries are made specific to the tool you purchase. You may want to be sure you have a second battery in case of a job that needs to be done while your battery is getting a charge. It all depends on how much you use your cordless drill.

Weight

The next problem

I was overwhelmed by the onslaught of cordless drills out there but found one factor I needed to consider is the weight of the drill. If it is too heavy he won't be able to work with it very long. I started searching for one that would be light weight and easy enough to be carried around the house for an entire day of all the little repairs the house is always in need of. The only problem was if it is light will it be strong enough for some heavier duty jobs and just not heavy.

After looking at the drills available and the prices for the drill with a recharger and battery I finally picked one.

My Final Choice

Cordless Drill/Driver Kit, 18v

It took me a lot of reading and comparing but I did make a choice and it is working out quite well. This drill has all the bells and whistles I found were best for a handheld. My husband uses it regularly and has no problems. The one I got came with the case and stores up nicely.

Update

It has been over a year and this proved to be the perfect gift. It has been used regularly. I have even gotten into using it. It is really easy to fix up things around the house that I would normally never think twice about doing and I am learning how things need to be adjusted to look or work just right.

As a man who has spent a lot time with these tools in my hands, I must say you have done a great job in covering a good selection on the subject and explaining the choices for people. Well done ,I liked it.
