Cottage Style House vs Studio Apartment

Updated on September 18, 2014

Should I Stay or Should I go

I live in a humble cottage in the inner city which I love as it gives me easy access to everything and I am close to family and friends.

It has a medium sized garden, which attracted me to it in the first place, raising a child here and the house has old fashion charm.

Recently I have been thinking, in a few years time, I should downsize to a studio apartment , still in the inner city but smaller with no garden to maintain and close to the beach.

The garden and the beach being the main issues here, as the garden is hard work, especially when unwell, to keep under control, yet I love it, but to be close to the sea would be a major attraction for me too.

A very hard and difficult decision to make with a lot of thought and thorougher research to be made.

The Cottage Style House

Living in a house is that, a house which you have made a home.

I love my cottage style home, I have good neighbors, not too close who don't have raging parties and live in a quiet street.

I have lived in this area for over twenty years now so I know it like the back of my hand and also have got to know the neighboring families who have become friends.

The house inside only needs some small changes to it which will come with time and the garden is a cottage style, with lots of room to play.

The only down side is the garden itself as it has well established Hibiscus trees in the front and although these trees look lovely and attract birds, they require a lot of maintenance. With both front and back gardens, the back needing to be mowed every fortnight, there is quite a bit of work required to keep on top of for it to look lovely.

I love gardening and to solve this problem when it all gets to much I could always get someone in to help do the heavy work, like pruning and mowing.

Just a thought.

The Studio Apartment by The Beach

Moving to a studio apartment by the sea in Port Melbourne or South Melbourne, great inner city areas by the sea, would be fun.

The units I have had a look at and know of though word of mouth are only a stones throw away from the beach itself and some are right on the beach front.

I can imagine myself walking on that beach nearly every day, enjoying the sounds and smells of the sea, not a worry in the world.

The reality of this though when seriously thinking of moving to an apartment would be, yes it would be lovely to live by the sea but would I like living in a smaller place with a lot of neighbors, these units being usually in groups of six or more with upstairs too.

There would be no garden to worry about only a small one in the front with shared at the back and there would be the beautiful sea and an interesting and extensive shopping center all close to public transport.

These are just a few of the things I would have to think about if I moved! I wonder what you would do in my shoes?

Living in studio apartments.

Impossible decision. If you love gardening, you will certainly miss having one. (I recently moved into an apartment, and all I have room for on the deck is a BarBQue and one pot of herbs...not even a chair)...but ... living by the ocean is magical.

Oh, I think it would be wonderful to be able to walk out my door and stroll on the beach.
