How to Create a Whimsical Disney Garden

Updated on October 14, 2014

Disney Gardening

If you've ever watched a Disney animated movie or visited any of the Disney theme parks, you probably noticed how beautiful their gardens and landscaping are. Why not create a little Disney magic at home by making your own Disney garden?

You could specialize in a particular Disney character or create a garden with a variety of characters. I like using different characters in different areas.

Even if you don't have a regular garden, you can still add a touch of Disney. Let's look at different ways to do this.

I always like to make people feel welcome when they come to visit. I suggest starting with a nice welcome sign. Being that Mickey Mouse is one of my favorite characters, this would be my sign of choice.

Did you know that Walt Disney's original name for Mickey was Mortimer Mouse?

Disney Garden Statues

Garden statues are a wonderful way to add some magic to a garden. You can place them on the ground under a windowsill or scatter them throughout your garden. They also work well along a walkway.

Wouldn't these be cute to have?

Disney Topiary

type=text
type=text

One thing I love about the landscaping in Disney theme parks is the wonderful topiary. I particulalry enjoy the animals in front of Small World in Disneyland. How I wish I had the talent to do this! I don't, but maybe you do!

Disney Wind Chimes

People use wind chimes for a variety of reasons. Some like them purely for decorative purposes, while others love to hear the sound of them as a breeze passes by. Historically, people who are superstitious have placed them near the front doot to ward off evil spirits.

Followers of Feng Shui hang them for their positive energy. I personally like to hang them from tree branches. Disney has many delightful ones that can be used in the garden.

Here's a couple more.

Pinocchio has always been a family favorite. I love how the image is of him wishing upon a star.

Disney Garden Ornments

Plant hangers add a very decorative touch to outdoor potted plants. What I love about them is that they give a subtle touch of Disney without being too bold. Here are some really cute ones.

How fun this is to have Mickey waving at you and your guests.

How adorable is this? Dopey happens to be my favorite dwarf.

Any Tinker Bell fans out there?

There's something so sweet about a fairy in the garden, especially if it's Tinker Bell.

Disney Garden Decor

I so wish I had the talent of having a green thumb, but sadly, I don't. I know I have my own ideas for what I like in a Disney garden, but that doesn't mean everyone else shares in my opinion. Here is a book suggestion for further ideas.

Garden Fountains

A real highlight to a garden can be a fountain. I know it's one of my favorite things to have. Just the idea of one brings thoughts of relaxation to me.

You might consider the Micky Mouse fountain below. It's quite playful and charming.

Imagine how delightful this would look in your yard. You can enjoy the soothing sound while relaxing outside. Comes with a submersible pump.

Disney Gardening

One thing I think is really fun is to add stepping stones to a garden. They can be used purely for decoration or to create a path.

Isn't this a delight? It's made from cement.

Each Spring, Epcot at Walt Disney World puts on its Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival which showcases flowers, gardens and Disney topiaries. It's a wonderful way to improve your green thumb.

Pepper Trees at Epcot

Aren't these interesting looking? These pepper trees are being grown in a greenhouse in Disney World at Epcot in the area known as Living with the Land.

      I'm not really a Disney fan but if I'm going to have anything Disney related in my garden, it would have to feature Tigger. I think he is simply fun and wonderful.

      Now this is a unique approach to things Disney that I've not seen. I love the animal topiary, that may give folks some ideas in their Disney garden on maybe a smaller scale. It reminded me of a rock garden from my neck of the woods on a large scale that would be hard to do but there are smaller rocks that work well too. :)
