Creating a Percy Jackson Bedroom for your Tween

Updated on March 20, 2012

Do you want to help your tween decorate their room like Percy Jackson would have?

Does your tween boy or girl love Percy Jackson? Are they a fan of the movie and the books? Have they been nagging you to help them create a bedroom that is right out of Ancient Greece? It's easier than you think! And there are also a lot of choices that would be appropriate to your tween's sensibilities (that is, not too young-looking, but not too grown-up for the parents either!). Here are some fun and easy options for making your tween's bedroom into a lair that Percy Jackson himself would love.

Percy Jackson Posters

What would a Percy Jackson bedroom be without a poster? These movie posters are a great addition to any tween who loves Percy Jackson. You can even get them framed for a special touch. Your tween boy or girl will love this!

Small Greek Mythological Statues

Any tween who loves Percy Jackson is going to love a small Greek statue of one of his or her favorite Greek God. Look for Poseidon, Athena, Hermes, Zeus, or Medusa. But really, any would be a perfect addition to your tween's Percy Jackson bedroom.

Swavelle/Mill Creek Indoor/Outdoor Oskar Sea

I tried to find some sort of Percy Jackson bedding (that wasn't cheesy and for a younger crowd) but I didn't find anything good. However, I did find this great fabric on Fabric.com that would be fantastic to make into pillows or a slipcover for a chair. It has a Greek feel to it, with its square pattern and colors. If you're handy at all, this fabric would be a perfect addition to an Greek mythology themed bedroom. It's an indoor/outdoor fabric, so it's probably not going to be great for a bedspread.

Ancient Greek Bedding

Since there wasn't anything particularly interesting for Percy Jackson bedding, an alternate choice might be something rich and textured, like Egyptian cotton sheets in a neutral color like ivory. Your tween is definitely not old enough to be sleeping in silk or satin sheets, but a smooth and soft cotton would be a perfect choice.

Columns and Pillars

What ancient Greek bedroom would be complete without a few pillars and columns in the room? Make sure they are white, and for additional detail, twist some fake ivy around from the base to the top to recreate the most majestic architecture structures in ancient Greece like the Parthenon. You can even find tables with pillars as their base for an even more beautiful look.

Poseidon's Trident for your Tween Boy

Poseidon's trident is a perfect accent for your tween boy's Percy Jackson bedroom. Percy is, in fact, Poseidon's son and has special powers over the water, so it would only make sense that the trident should play a role in this themed bedroom. You will want to make sure you get the Poseidon trident and not the devil one though!

Canopy Bed for your Tween Girl

Mathews and Co. Alexander Queen Canopy Bed Complete

If your Percy Jackson fan is a girl, she would love a new canopy bed to help make her bedroom just a little more reminiscent of the ancient Greek world. Take a look at this beautiful canopy bed from Carolina Rustica. It would be perfect for your tween girl's Percy Jackson bedroom.

...Or make your own canopy with a mosquito net

If buying a new bed is not in your budget (and for a lot of us, it's not!), perhaps a mosquito net hanging from the ceiling. Not as authentic, perhaps, but definitely easier on the checkbook. It will add that draping feel of a real canopy without a lot of pain.

White Draped Curtains

Again, this is probably only good for a tween girl, but another great way to show off the ancient Greek love for beautiful drapes is by purchasing some basic white curtains and draping them over your metal curtain rods. What a beautiful way to show off the windows! You will want to avoid curtain tabs or anything too thick -- the important thing is the draping. This would also be a good choice for a shabby chic bedroom, so it's a very versatile look.

Great suggestions - it's so hard to find fun, reasonably-priced bedroom décor for tweens!
