Floor Decoration Ideas & Creative Crafts

Decorations for walls are commonplace yet often a floor is left as a plain carpet or as bare concrete or wood, however I believe that a rug can really elevate the look of a room. In fact, if you look at any home décor magazines you will see that most rooms have rugs or mats on the floor (a clever trick!) because it adds another dimension, and often another texture, to the room.

If you are fond of crafts like me, you may want to make your own rugs or mats so that you can choose the exact colors and design, plus save yourself money. I have provided lots of tutorials for various rags rugs, woven rugs, painted mats and more, plus instructions for how to paint your floors either freehand or using stencils.

I hope this page gives you plenty of ideas :)

Rag Rugs, Braided Rugs & Technique Instructions

Rag rugs are simply rugs made using strips of fabric. This fabric can be fabric scraps or old clothing that you want to upcycle. They can be a very fun and practical recycling project.

There are various ways to make rag rugs, including braiding, weaving, crocheting, knitting and knotting. I have included some of the types in the following list, and others further down the page.

Braided Rug Materials

This is the preparation behind making a braided rug. You can make the fabric strips that you need out of most clothing, from old t-shirts to worn out pants.
