DIY Wall Art Using Elegant Finish Metallic Paint
While decorating my Master bedroom, I needed artwork for one large wall, so I decided to try my hand at a DIY paint chip art project.
I used an XL square craft punch to create 'mosaic tiles' from almost 20 different paint chip colors. After laying out the 'tiles' onto 2-2'X2' MDF board 'canvases', I then ModPodged each 'tile' onto my 'canvases'.
Once that was done, I wasn't at all happy with the look.
I felt the 'tiles' were too fresh, too clear, too defined; I wanted a more aged, worn, imperfect appearance.
I considered making my own glaze by combining glazing medium with a dark umber paint, or applying an off-the-shelf stain to the surface; I even thought about using a dark wax to knock down the 'too-perfect' appearance of the pieces. But I wasn't sure any of those efforts would give me the result I was after.
Then, finally, I found the ideal product: DecoArt's Elegant Finish Metallic Paint, in Rich Espresso.
There's no mixing necessary: it's a ready-to-use glazing liquid, with the added benefit of a metallic finish, which would age my 'canvases' AND add a beautiful metallic sheen to them.
It was easy to apply:
I simply used a 1" brush to cover two rows of 'tiles' at a time, wiping the excess off with a rag. In just a matter of minutes, I had both 'canvases' finished, with precisely the aged, distressed look I was hoping for.
After allowing the pieces to dry for an hour, I attached hanging hardware to the back of each piece and hung them on my formerly bare Master bedroom wall.
My wall is bare no more - I now have a pair of subtle, antiqued DIY wall art pieces, thanks to DecoArt's Elegant Finish Metallics Paint's 'Rich Espresso'!
