Updated on May 8, 2013

We Have A Winner

Sifting through all the reviews, user comments and ratings of the Dremel 4000-6/50 rotary tool I gave it the number one spot on my list. I believe it has the best combination of accessories and attachments for any crafting or home DIY project you can think of. Let me share what I liked best and what could have been improved.

The 4000 Offers the Highest Performance

It's also the most versatile

During my research, I found out that the electronic feedback circuitry enables consistent performance at all speed levels and they've increased the strength of its motor. What I liked most is that the 4000 can use all of the existing Dremel accessories and attachments including high-performance attachments. With a slim, ergonomic body it provides comfort and control any way you hold it.

Five Reasons This is the Best Rotary Tool

Lets see the good stuff

My Grandfather and Father have owned and used a Dremel. I have two of them myself. Since doing this review for my friend and to share with everyone I really want this one! It has everything and more. I can just think of all the neat things I can do if I owned the Dremel 4000.

I love the fact I can use all the available attachments and there is a really good assortment included with this kit. Not only that but I can take advantage of all the high-performance accessories and attachments too!

1.Includes six great attachments to get you started

Here are the attachments that come included. A planer attachment to shave sticky doors, smooth out a shelf or picture frame projects. Will plane to a depth of 1/64" per pass on material up to 2 1/4" wide. A Flex-Shaft attachment to get into the finest details of your project without the bulk. The flexible, 36" shaft attaches easily allowing fingertip control for polishing, wood carving, sanding, engraving and more. A circle cutter/straight edge guide is the simple way to cut circular holes in many types of materials. It cuts perfect circles from 3/4" to 12" in diameter and you can also set the depth. The straight edge guide allows you to rout or cut in a straight line. A sanding/grinding guide, to assist in getting that crisp edge on your projects. It will give you a 90 degree or 45 degree edge on just about all materials and is adjustable up to 1/2". The multipurpose cutting guide attachment can be used for controlled cuts in a variety of materials including: drywall, laminate, fiberglass, plastic and vinyl siding. Now you can get those recessed lights installed. Easily adjusts to a 3/4" depth of cut. A lawn mower blade and garden tool sharpening attachment will make easy work of making sure your tools are in good working order. A sharp mower blade makes for a healthier lawn. How about your other garden tools such as shovels, shears, hoes and axes can also be sharpened. Sharp tools makes gardening and yard work fun again stop fighting with your dull tools!

2.Let's talk about the accessories

An Engraving Cutter, Drill Bit, two different High Speed Cutters, a Mandrel, a Mandrel w/ Screw, a Bristle Brush, a Coarse 1/2" Sanding Drum, two 1/2" 60 Grit Sanding Bands, two 3/4" Sanding Discs 180 grit, two 3/4" Sanding Discs 220 grit, two 3/4" Sanding Discs, 240 grit, three Small Felt Wheels, four Heavy Duty Emery Cut-off Wheels, Polishing Compound, a Carbon Steel Brush, a 1" Felt Polishing Wheel, two 1/2" 120 Grit Sanding Bands, two 1/2" 240 Grit Sanding Bands, a 3/32" Collet, a 1-1/4" Cut-Off Wheel, two Aluminum Oxide Grinding Wheels, a Multi-Purpose Cutting Bit, an Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone, a Silicon Carbide Grinding Stone, a Wrench, an Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone, an EZ Mandrel, two EZ Thin-Cut Cutting Wheels, an EZ 1" Cloth Polishing Wheel, two EZ 1 1/2" Reinforced cut-off wheels, two EZ Plastic cutting Wheels, tow EZ Abrasive Buffs, 180 & 280 Grit, an EZ Abrasive Buff, 320 Grit.

3.User friendly design

It's lightweight at just over a pound you won't have to worry about excessive strain. Just make sure to take breaks as needed. The Dremel 4000 comes with a six-foot cord, pencil-grip nose cap for stability, and replaceable motor brushes to extend motor life. Easy-to-read speed settings and separate on/off switch strategically placed so it won't interfere with your grip during use. Now that's smart!

4.Comfort, power and control

The Dremel 4000 builds on their tradition with a more responsive and comfortable design. Updated features that reflect users' most asked for improvements. This rotary tool is ideal for carving, sanding, cutting, engraving, routing, grinding, cleaning, polishing and much more!

5.Variable speed

With 5,000 to 35,000 RPM you can adjust the tool to any speed you need to match your project. Remember speed is the key to getting your work done. You don't need much pressure to get the desired results, let the speed and the tool do the work. When you need a break, just turn the tool off and when you are ready to return to work, turn it back on and the speed setting is right where you left it. No more trying to remember your speed setting.

A look at some of the accessories included

Here is a short video talking about different accessories that can be purchased in a kit. He also talks about different modeling projects you can do with the accessories.

What's Not To Love About the 4000

I wish it had an upgrade or two

Sure there are 6 great attachments included, I just wish it came with the right angle attachment. If you really use the attachments all the time the plastic threads could get worn or stripped if you're not careful.

1.No right angle attachment.

You don't need any tools to attach it and you can rotate the attachment to different angles to achieve the perfect grip. This accessory will get into hard to reach areas while grinding, sanding or cutting and enhances the versatility of your rotary tool.

2.Plastic housing threads

Easily attaches to your rotary tool in place of the housing cap. As long as you are careful when using attachments you will not have to worry about the threads. I have had my Dremel for years and I have not had any problems with the threads from attachments. just make sure not to over tighten.
