How to Install a Duravent Chimney

Updated on March 26, 2017

It is Easy to Install your own Chimney with Simpson Duravent Products

I do not work for Simpson Duravent and I am not a Chimney professional. That is exactly why I want to tell you how my husband installed a Simpson Duravent Chimney in less than one day! My husband has always wanted a wood stove, and He is always the one do do the work, so we decided to start doing some research on how to install our own chimney. The first thing he did was start asking around to friends. He asked questions like "Who installed your Chimney?" and "How much did you pay to have your chimney installed?" What we found is that everyone that we know had hired a contractor to install their chimney. We also found out that the average cost is over $3000.00.

We knew this was not an option for us, so we went to our second option, the internet. Before buying anything we always go to GOOGLE to read as many reviews as we can find. It is nice to know what people think about products, but we love to read reviews because they often contain tips for successful installation.

How we decided to buy our Simpson Duravent Chimney

It ends up that our decision was pretty easy. After doing a lot of research and reading tons of reviews, we realized that Simpson Duravent Duraplus products, were the safest and easiest to install products. We decided to install our Wood Stove in the basement, so we needed a Simpson Duravent through the wall kit. They also make a ceiling kit for anyone installing through the roof. We learned that our Simpson Duravent Chimney should extend at least two feet past the highest peak of our roof for a successful draft. So the measurements began, we knew exactly what we needed. Keep in mind you will need multiple Simpson Duravent Straight Chimney pipes, depending on your measurements.

My Review of Simpson Duravent Chimney products

We love our Simpson Duravent Chimney! The most difficult part of the job for us was putting the whole through our concrete basement wall. Once we were ready to install the chimney, it was literally a snap. Our favorite feature of our Simpson Duravent Chimney is the triple wall pipe. This pipe is so well insulated that it is cool to the touch, even when a fire is burning! This is an impressive safety feature for us. We would recommend this product to anyone that would like to install their own chimney. We are now very happy and loyal Simpson Duravent customers.

Amazing to find that the pipes remain cool to the touch with this type of chimney! Great article. :)

My husband can build a masonry chimney and has done so in our former home, but we decided we'll be using an insulated steel chimney for the woodstove we want to add to our Vermont home. Thanks so much for this helpful review and info on your research and experience. Do be sure to clean your chimney monthly if you burn every day.

Great Lens...However, chimney cleaning and installing must be done by the experts to ensure the safety parameters.

A very informative and well written lens. If we didn't live in the tropics I would be asking Senor Cicak to fit me a wood stove! :-)

It doesn't look like it gets much easier to install a chimney than this. I love learning new things to me on Squidoo, thanks you.
