How To Chose A Ecological Lawnmower

Another advantage is low weight and size which is a direct result of the electric engine which is substantially smaller than a piston gas engine.

On a wider perspective, a huge advantage has to do with the environment. A electric mower is extremely eco-friendly as it has no exhaust, it does not require oil changes and it is what you choose if you want a quiet lawn mower that does not disturb your neighbors.

Here are a couple of tips to help you choose your next garden machine.

There are two kinds of lawnmowers powered by electricity - corded and cordless.

Why is Everyone Buying Electric Lawn Mowers?

The low noise level is the main selling point of a electric lawn mower and why it is so popular among city people and in small house suburban areas. The smaller the yard, and the closer your neighbor is, the better match a power mower will be to your needs.

There are other advantages over sound levels of course. You get rid of having to worry about spare parts like spark plugs and having to do messy maintenance like oil change and engine wash. You can also forget fuel consumption, carb compliance and having to walk in the toxic fumes of poor combustion engines. No more running out of fuel midway through a lawn cut either.

And, you can forget trying to start a gas mower that refuses to fire up. Pulling that cord time and time again is hard work can make anyone get high blood pressure when all you need to do - if you have the right gear - is plug it in and start cutting grass.

Cutting your lawn is one thing, but edging it makes a huge difference on how tidy and neat it looks.

Toto makes some of the most highly rated garden gear. this one is a 14 inch trimmer, slightly wider than the competition.

The most popular choice is a electric mower powered by your mains and attached to a cord. The main selling points is they are cheaper, weigh slightly less and will run for as long as you please.

The negative of having this type of machine is that you need to deal with a substantial amount of cord which can be even more complicated if you have sectioned lawns around the house.

Seen here is the 20-Inch Corded Electric Lawn Mower by Greenworks which is a wide-cutting machine that sits firmly on the best seller list. Features include collection bag, side discharge and 4 year warranty. This is a electric lawnmower with high ratings from customers.

Buying Tips for The First-time Buyer

  • The bigger the deck width of the machine, the more you can cut in a single run but the more expensive it is (bigger blade = bigger engine). Decide whether the time you will save is worth paying more. If you have a small lawn, choose a cheaper, narrow machine.
  • Look for a model that will give you an option to clip grass. It's time efficient and you can use your clippings to fertilize the soil
  • If you buy a cordless model avoid the self propelling type since the wheel drive uses a bit of power. Electric machines are light so you should have no problem pushing it forward in any terrain.

Battery Powered Cordless Lawn Mowers

If you don't like the hassle of being limited by the cord or have a small property, go cordless. It gives you more freedom to move around. Here are some things to consider: powered mowers are incredibly lightweight - do you really need a self-propelled one? (the drive mechanism adds to the weight). It usually takes overnight to charge a battery.

A powerful 36-volt mower is the choice if you have a large property and/or rough grass to cut.

Shown above is the Black & Decker 36-Volt Cordless Lawn Mower which is one of the most powerful cordless electric lawn mowers. It is also one of the most feature packed which cuts your grass in 19 inch runs, is self-propelled and has a detachable battery bay for easy battery changes on the fly. This is a expensive machine - but one of the best.

They are more ecological but less powerful than gas operated ones. Recently I bought a lawn mower robot, battery operated, it does the all work, it's great.
