Extra Large Bean Bag Chairs for Adults

Is it a chair? Is it a sofa? I've noticed that even if an item is massive enough to accommodate the whole family with ease, plus the dog, it's often still called a "bean bag chair"!

This first lot are specifically extra large bean bag chairs - for capacious single or cozy double occupancy.

Size Matters

As you've come to a lens about extra large bean bags, I guess that's what you're after - but there's extra large and there's EXXXXTRA LARGE so do make sure you choose wisely!

TIP: Read customer reviews. These give feedback from real users,

which can be invaluable in clarifying what size might suit you best. It's worth looking at reviews of different sizes to get the full picture.

The Right Kind of Space

A bean bag chair is a great choice for all sorts of lifestyles and living areas:

It's perfect in a huge room,

of course, but because it's

multi-functional, a big bean bag chair can also be an

ideal solution where space

is at a premium.

One of the most important things to remember is...

...Keep it Simple

A bean bag chair looks best in an uncluttered environment.

Big Bean Bags for Adults: 6ft Oblong

Bean bag chairs come in two basic shapes: oblong and round.

The oblong variety will probably fit more naturally into a regular couch- or sofa-shaped space.

Six-foot bean bags are big enough to be truly versatile, but not gigantic (not compared with some further down the page anyway).

Big Bean Bags for Adults: 6ft Round

These circular bean bags are about 72in across and anythng from 12in to 36in high.

Spread flat on the floor, each one is the shape of a big fat pancake - though it can easily take on different forms and be squished to fit into available spaces.

Any extra large bean bag chair is good for a nap. But there are times when you want the equivalent of a proper bed.

Corda Roy bean bag chairs are quite unusual in that the cover unzips to reveal a bed! The video below shows how a CordaRoy Queen Size bean bag chair (4ft x 4ft) converts to a queen size mattress (6ft 8in x 6ft x 1ft) that will comfortably sleep two.

Corda Roy's bean bag chair beds come in several sizes (see the whole range below the video).

Corda Roy's Convertible Bean Bag Beds

Corda Roy's bean bag chair beds come in four sizes. As well as Queen (shown above), there's Full, King, and the grandest daddy

of them all, Double King!

Corda-Roy's Double King bean bag sofa is 84in x 60in (7ft x 5ft) (manufacturer's dimensions). This seats up to four. And inside it are TWO king-size mattresses. All you need is floor space, and you can send four adults or a truckload of little ones off to the land of Nod!

TIP: For extra versatility, at some point you could purchase single King-size covers and put a mattress in each to make two King chairs instead of one Double King sofa.

Giant Bean Bag Chairs: 7ft+

The bean bags here can't compete on the mattress stakes, but otherwise they're the biggest I could find - up to 8ft across.

Four are oblong, two are round.

These lovable monsters gobble up space. Make sure you have plenty to spare if you're tempted to give one a home.

Bean Bag Chair Beginnings

A brief skip across the decades

The bean bag chair has come a long way since it first strutted its stuff (and stuffing!) in the late Sixties/early Seventies. At that time it was new and innovative. It was also relatively inexpensive. Hence the bean bag became a Seventies must-have for the young and trendy, and those on a budget (often one and the same).

Back then, the chair was filled with polystyrene beads or pellets (resembling

beans - hence "bean bag"). I remember it making a sort of scrunching sound and sensation as you sat down and settled in. Not unpleasant, but an intrinsic part of

the bean bag experience. Modern bean bag chairs are filled mostly with shredded polyurethane foam - quieter, softer, more comfortable than in the old days!

Decades passed, fashions changed and bean bag chairs lost their status. Even so, understandably they've remained a favorite with kids, from toddlers thru teens.

Roll on the new millennium and improvements since then have brought bean bag furniture back into the adult arena. It comes in such a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and materials, there's something to suit every home and lifestyle.

How to Assemble Your Bean Bag Chair - It's worth doing it right

This video shows how to unpack and assemble a bean bag chair. The one here is a Jaxx but other brands follow the same principle.

* When unpacking using scissors (or anything sharp), be very careful not to cut the liner or cover inside the package.

* Put foam blocks inside the liner before unwrapping them, to contain any stray bits. (NB Some chairs come with the liner already filled.)

* The filling will breathe and expand more easily in just the liner, so it's a good idea to wait for 24 hours before putting on the cover.

* Align the zippers of cover and liner. Not all manufacturers mention this, but it makes sense.

Wow! A bean bag chair with a bed inside? That would be a great addition to our family room. When my brother and his kids come, we're always one bed short and the kids would love the idea of a bean bag bed. Very cool!
