What Is A Fairy Garden
A Fairy Garden is such a magical and whimsical place, no wonder the fairies look for them in the Spring. It's almost Spring and I feel compelled to create a magical spot in my yard to shelter the fairies and to feed my soul. I am going to let the magic and the whimsy take over, I am going to dance in the morning sun, shoeless, and I am going to let the magic seep into my soul as the earth renews herself once again. How lucky we are to live in an age where we believe in miracles and get to see them each and every day. (tho most go unseen by most) I am going to expand my awareness, and yes, building and caring for a Fairy Garden is a great way to begin.
A Fairy Garden is a work of love and imagination. It's a place for the fairies to come and stay, a place that's safe and beautiful. People who have fairy gardens usually put a lot of love into these little sanctuaries. I've found so many lovely little gardens in so many different styles, I am having a difficult time choosing which style I'd like to create.

What's In A Fairy Garden Kit?
One Fairy Garden Kit I found contains:
- Box for planting
- A lid that becomes a saucer
- Arbor with bench
- Tiny pebbles to form a path
- Fairy Dust
Another one contains:
- 1 French Chateau
- 2 Border Planters (4")
- 2 Arc Border Planters
- 1 Round Border Planter
- 1 Greek Urn on Plinth
A French Chateau? Sounds lovely to me, check out the picture below to see if this is the kind of Fairy Garden you had envisioned.
You can find many beginner kits to start your Fairy Garden or you can make your own supplies out of things you have around your house. Look at the pictures on this page and get some great ideas. You will see someone making a Fairy House out of a plastic water container and another making a Fairy House from an old tea kettle. Sticks and stones go very far when you are building a home for a visiting Fairy.
Choosing a Fairy Garden setting is just as difficult as buying a home for yourself! (well, almost) There are so many different styles to choose from and I think the Fairies who would hang out with me might be a bit overwhelmed by the opulence of the French Chateau...although some would surely love to stay there.
What You Will Need To Start Your Fairy Garden
To begin creating your own miniature Fairy Garden you will need a container or spot to garden, some plants and stones to decorate with, something that works as a Fairy House, it can be a rock with a door painted on it, or a piece of tree bark, or a small miniature house. You will just need these basic supplies and a bit of imagination.
Paint some stones to make a walkway, make a roof out of branches glued together, make a door out of a leaf that you have spray painted to harden. It's really very simple to make a wonderful Fairy Garden...just use the magic inside you!

The Brookside Cottage
I can imagine this lovely little cottage set up in a container in my yard. It will be surrounded by a tiny garden and will have a tiny table and 2 chairs set up outside to welcome any fairies who'd like to come and visit. Now that I've decided on the cottage, I have to begin to choose the tiny plants I want for my Fairy Garden. I also love the stone cottage below.

All These Fairy Garden Houses Are Beautiful
I haven't seen a single Fairy House I didn't like. No matter what style you choose I believe it's the love you put into the chore that determines the worth and beauty of your project. The Fairies are going to know how much sweat and tears went into creating this lovely home for them. We each have our own style and that's part of what is so wonderful with the world. There are different viewpoints and styles for us to look at, examine, and choose as favorites of our own. Fairy Houses and Gardens are in that wonderful exciting group of the things we can choose. Enjoy the magic!
