Minnesota Horticulture: Farmall B Tractor With Belly Mower Attachment for Lawn Mowing

Updated on November 27, 2016

The Farmall B Had a Few Issues

Our tractor was working fine, then, it started over revving. We do not know where to find parts for our governor. We suspect a broken spring. We are looking for a governor rebuild kit. We do not know where to start looking. What we would really like to find, is someone who rebuilds the governor, but apparently, no one does at this point.

Any help, ideas... we'd appreciate your input!!!!!

Update: the Farmall is now working.

Update - Tractor Runs Again... What Did We Do?

We ordered a carburetor kit from Russel Tractor. We removed our carburetor and replaced the parts. The problem was the carburetor arm was broken, so, replacing that fixed part of the problem.

All the governor parts were intact, except they were excessively worn, so we will be replacing them next.

The tractor was not running correctly, so we adjusted the distributor for timing. Some tractors do not have a distributor, but ours does.

Then. We put in new spark plugs and new spark plug wires.

That seemed to fix the problem.

Now... back to mowing!

Apparently, This is a B MAGNETO

Yayyyy! . Russell Tractor Parts online. However, I think they were out of stock. At least we have a parts list.

Our Tractor

the part is located to the right, below the word FARMALL and just above the tire, behind the radiator.

Oh, Oh, There's Oil on the Ground

there seems to be a hole in the side of the tractor, but someone tells us that hole was already there.

Do I believe that?

I don't know.

See What I Mean?

What a mess

Russell Tractor Has Parts

See this part. It doesn't seem to have the 'hole' in it like ours.

We have a Farmall H and it seems the governor is always in need of adjustment. :( All of the tractors we use on our farm are antiques so there is always plenty of maintenance issues to deal with. Good Luck with your tractor.
