Garden Gadgets | Gifts for Gardeners

Updated on April 17, 2013

Best Garden Gadgets

A collection of the best garden gadgets. The collection includes a range of well-designed gadgets that are practical and enjoyable to use. Garden gadgets make great gifts for amateur and expert gardeners. I've included gadgets for a variety of budgets.

I love my garden, but I'm not a natural gardener so I'll take all the help I can get from useful gadgets. My Dad is now retired and is enjoying his garden and my Mom enjoys making her garden attractive. My grandparents have been keen gardeners all their lives and now need some help taking care of their garden. And my sister is hoping to be in a new home with her first garden by Christmas. I hope you find something for the gardener in your life.

Getting Ready for the Next Season

As I write this it is supposed to be Spring. We should be out getting the garden ready for summer. But, it's been snowing! I'm hoping the weather sorts itself out soon so we can start living outdoors more.

Let's Tidy Up the Garden

Right, first we're going to get the garden tidy. Let's get rid of the weeds and those piles of leaves that are creating a mess.

Leaf Scoops - Practical and Inexpensive

Do you have problem with leaves in your garden?

These leaf scoops make cleaning up the yard much easier!

They might seem like a lit of a gimmick, but they actually work.

They work well as a gift if you can't afford to spend too much money but want something practical.

Now Let's Tackle the Lawn

Right, now let's get the lawn trimmed and watered. My grandparents used to have the most beautiful lawn I've ever seen. They spent hours and hours looking after it. But most people don't have that much time these days, so we need a bit of help!

Black & Decker Cordless GrassHog Trimmer/Edger - LST220 12-Inch 20-Volt Lithium-Ion

I'm a big fan of cordless gadgets for the garden. I don't like to have cords trailing around the garden. Cordless seems much safer.

The Black & Decker GrassHog is a cordless trimmer and edger which

is great for perfect edges and awkward angles.

A great gadget for perfectionist gardeners whose lawn must be just so.

Orbit 62001 Lawn and Garden Digital Watering Timer

I had to include a lawn watering gadget as they are so popular. I've picked the Orbit 62001 Lawn and Garden Digital Watering Timer for its excellent reviews. This timer is programmable to allow you to water your garden on schedule. This is great for gardens that don't have an automatic sprinkler system.

Nelson Raintrain Traveling Sprinkler

The Nelson 1865 Raintrain Traveling Sprinkler is another sprinker gadget that is worth a mention. The Raintrain looks like a little tractor and follows a hose (not included) around the garden allowing it to water awkward shaped gardens effectively. This is a classic garden gadget that many owners have been using successfully for years.

Rain Water Collection and Storage System

We'll need plenty of water to keep the lawn and plants healthy. Reusing rain water is the best option.

Algreen Products Cascata Rain Barrel 65-Gallon, Terra Cotta

The Algreen 81001 Cascata 65-Gallon Rain Water Collection and Storage System is a rain barrel that won't look out of place in a gorgeous garden.

It's made from durable plastic but looks like aged terracotta. This rain barrel is well-designed with an attachment for your hose. This is a major improvement on ugly plastic rain barrels that create an eyesore.

Keeping the Pests Out!

Now we've got a lovely garden we don't want it ruined by pests. Let's find some gadgets that will keep our garden pest-free.

Outdoor Living

Now we've got the garden sorted it's time to enjoy it.

Acu-Rite Outdoor Wall Clock with Thermometer, Hygrometer - Outdoor Clock

An outdoor clock makes a lovely gift for anyone who likes to spend time outdoors. There are some gorgeous designs available to suit a wide range of tastes. Many of them also measure temperature and humidity too making them useful for gardeners.

La Crosse Technology WT-3181PL-INT 18 inch Atomic Outdoor Clock with Temperature & Humidity

An outdoor clock is a useful gadget for the garden. Time can fly when you're enjoying your garden and it's handy to be able to check the time if your watch is hidden by gardening gloves.

Garden clocks are also an attractive way to decorate your garden as people increasingly use their garden as another room.

The Acu-Rite 02418 14-inch Faux-Slate Outdoor Wall Clock has a built-in thermometer and hygrometer. It's time is radio controlled (excellent, we only use radio controlled clocks now, much better than having to remember to change the time on the garden clock too!) It's also an attractive looking clock. Takes 1 AA battery.

The Digital Plant Care Sensor looks really interesting and I was wondering whether snails would trigger the Scarecrow Motion-Activated Sprinkler ;-)
